Obituary of Lorraine Diesen

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lorraine Diesen, on January 28, 2025, in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Born to Sevrin and Nora Swenson on December 15, 1931, in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan.  Mom grew up in the Hagen area near Birch Hills, experiencing the joys of life on a large family farm. She often spoke of her deep respect for her parents and cherished her Norwegian heritage. Mom attended LCBI in Outlook, Saskatchewan, for her high school years, where she expanded her musical talents and enriched her Lutheran faith. After high school, she returned to Prince Albert to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse at Victoria Union Hospital. It was here she met her lifelong best friends, Donna, Ruby, and Lucille. Through Lucille, Mom met Jack Diesen, they married in July 1955 and moved to the Diesen homestead. Mom was an exceptional nurse; her career spanned 35 years as she worked full-time at the Spiritwood Union Hospital. However, her greatest accomplishment was raising and surviving life with five children. She worked tirelessly alongside Dad on the farm, milking cows, baking a million loaves of bread, tending to a vast yard, growing a massive garden, and canning to preserve vegetables and fruits to feed her large family throughout the winter. We are sure she never slept for years at a time. After retiring from nursing, Mom poured her heart and soul into volunteering. She was very active in the Lutheran Church in Shell Lake, serving on the church council and was an active choir member. She was also a dedicated member of the Saskatchewan Housing Board and the provincial health board for many decades, always ready to help in the local community. Mom was a friend, a caregiver, a loving wife, and the BEST mom ever! She was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. In 2014, Mom and Dad moved off the farm to live at the Villa in Shell Lake, in 2018 they moved to Diamond House Care Home in Warman.  In October 2023, Mom moved to Spiritwood Long-term Care. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Diamond House and Spiritwood Long-term Care for their love and gentle care over the past several years. The physicians and staff at both facilities are true angels who made a big difference in Mom’s life and ours.
