She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Margaret Bassingthwaite, and her brothers Albert and Neil. A Celebration of life was held for Judy on January 10, 2011 at the Rabbit Lake Community Hall, with Pastor Don Unger officiating. Urn bearers were grand-daughter Cassidy Brown and son, Byron Haryung. Honorary Pallbearers were "All relatives and friends who shared in Judy's life". Music was provided by Cornie & Marlene Martens and Charles & Claire Schira; The Eulogy was presented by Sherry Brown and a slide presentation prepared by Angel & Austin Haryung. Following the service the urn was taken to Pleasantsite Cemetery via Last Ride - Hooves to Heaven driven by Byron Haryung. Judy was the youngest of five children born of Margaret and Albert Bassingthwaite. She attended Meeting Lake School for her Grade One and finished the rest of her schooling at Rabbit Lake Central School. Since she was the last one home, by age six, she became her Dad's right hand man and willingly helped with the chores and outside field work. Throughout her school years she enjoyed being a student and participated in almost all sports offered. Other extracurricular activities she was engaged in included figure skating, curling, attending 4-H, swimming, dancing and socializing. On December 21, 1968 Judy and Doug Haryung were married at the Third Avenue United Church in North Battleford. Their first home was a 8' x 24' house trailer which they moved around Saskatchewan while Doug worked for the SK Wheat Pool. They lived in Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton where Doug worked for Overhead Doors. By 1973 they had enough of the city life and decided to buy a mixed farm in the Rabbit Lake area. While there, she took an active role in the Rabbit Lake community. For 12 years Judy served as a Trustee for the Northern Lakes School Board. She managed the concession at Meeting Lake Regional Park. She also served as the Manager for the Rabbit Lake Housing Authority, a Councilor in the R.M. of Meeting Lake, and a member on the Rose Gill Lodge Board of Trustees. In her spare time, Judy maintained a huge garden and the vegetables she grew were canned and froze to last the many winter months following harvest time. Despite her proven homemaking skills, she remained true to her upbringing and helped Doug prepare the fields for planting, harvested the grain and fed cattle on their ranch. During the '70s, she and Doug did a lot of snowmobiling and attended many rallies and helped fundraise for the Frosty Hares. One memorable trip included a 600 mile trip from Winnipeg, MB to Rabbit Lake. In 1998 after having raised all sorts of livestock including pigs, chickens, horses and up to 200 head of cows, Judy and Doug sold all their livestock and restricted their farming activities to grain farming. In 2000, Judy got her Class 1A License and was then hired by Jaegers Transport to team drive with Doug, pulling Super-B Trains. They hauled grain, coal and fertilizer throughout SK and AB. This seemed to cut into socializing at home and the recreational time traveling with their RV, which Judy and Doug loved doing. For the past two years she taught with Doug at Northlands College. It would be an understatement to state that Judy has taken a few pictures over the years. Her passion for photography allowed her to capture moments of shared grief, laughter, love and shared experiences with friends and family. Her photo library emphasizes the value she placed on relationships with her family and as tangible evidence of how she lived her life - surrounded by those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rose Gill Lodge or to the Palliative Care Unit in the Battleford Union Hospital. Email condolences may be sent to beau.lac@sasktel.net and will be forwarded to the family. Beau "Lac" Funeral Home of Spiritwood were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
