Obituary of Arthur "Art" Strom

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Oliver Strom on October 23, 2011. He was born on April 22, 1918 in Shell Lake, the eldest son of Oscar and Oliva Strom who were immigrants from Norway. He married Irene Cowley in 1943 and began his married life on the farm in Shell Lake in the Paddling Lake District near Scandia Church. Health issues forced him to move to town in 1955, and it was at this time that he became caretaker of the Shell Lake School, a job which he held until his retirement in 1983. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters: Carol (Lawrence) Fusick and their children: Bernice (Ken) Schira and their children, Vicki and Tyler; Lorrie (Todd) Field and their children, Brett, Travis and Cody; Janice (Darcy) Strate and their children, Kyle and Lexi. Brenda (Bill) McNeilly and their children: Greg and his children, Courtney and Danae; Lana (Keith) Gareau and their children, Braeden, Kaylyn and Keira. Lynne (Randy) Delorme and their son, Ryan (Marky Baker). His brother, Rudy (Lois) Strom, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by: His wife, Irene, his brother, Harold (Elva) Strom, his sister, Edith (Roy) Hillhouse, his grandson, Randy Fusick. Art was a kind and gentle man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was always happiest when he was out camping, hunting, fishing, curling or golfing. He also loved to travel and was fortunate enough to be able to visit several countries. He was content if he could be drawing, painting on wood or crafting. He loved nature and collected rocks and pieces of driftwood, or any other thing he found beautiful, which he would later craft into some piece of artwork. He loved his cabin at Memorial Lake and was proud to be one of the founding members of the Park. He served on the Park Board for many years. He spent his last years at the Evergreen Centre in Leoville and so appreciated the kind and loving care of the staff and companionship of the residents. The Funeral Service for Art was held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 2:00pm from the Lions Hall in Shell Lake, Sk. Internment followed in the Shell Lake Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Art's memory may be made to the MS Society of Canada or the Evergreen Health Centre Park Fund in Leoville. Email condolences will be forwarded to the family. Arrangements entrusted to Ed Beaulac of Beau"Lac" Funeral Home
