Obituary of Edwin Peter Michael Wirtz

The family of Eddie Wirtz is sad to announce his passing on October 26, 2012, at the Lakewood Lodge in Big River, Sk. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Belroy (Newton) of Big River, a sister Charlene MacPhae and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Eddie was born in Bruno, SK on September 10, 1924. After high school he went to work on the Alaska Highway. In 1945 he came to Big River and started a trucking business. On September 10, 1945, his twenty-first birthday, Eddie married Belroy. In 1959 they moved to Winnipeg where he worked as shop foreman for Atomic Transport. In 1968 they moved to Elrose, SK., and soon after started a feed lot near Rosetown. In 1989 they retired back home to Big River. Eddie was a handyman and loved to hunt and fish. He was a hockey fan of Big River Braves and a Saskatoon Blades season ticket holder for years. Eddie was predeceased by his parents; Ottilia and Leonard Wirtz, brothers; Werner(Mary) and Joseph(Minnie), sisters; Katherine(Don) Middleton and Isabelle(Mike) Hofbour, mother and father-in-law; Mary and Ivery Newton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Blanch and Peter Kasdorf. The Funeral Service, Officiated by Pastor Jake McCrea was held on Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 at 2:00 pm from the Community Hall in Big River, Saskatchewan. Final Resting Place for Eddie is in the Big River Cemetery. Eulogy and presentation was given by Wanda Bogner, Laura Wilson was the organist and the singing was led by the Big River Community Choir. Urn Bearers were; Wally Wilson, Ted Bogner, Scott Hartnet and Travis Gould. Honorary Pallbearers are “All relatives and friends who have shared in Ed’s life.” Big River Elk’s and Royal Purple were the Honor Guard. Memorial Donations can be made in memory to the Big River Cemetery Fund c/o Town of Big River. Email condolences will be forwarded to the family. Ed and Brenda Beaulac entrusted with arrangements.
