Obituary of Dale Joseph Schwehr

SCHWEHR - Dale

It is with broken hearts that the family of Dale Joseph Schwehr late of Canwood announces his sudden passing on Monday, March 18th at the age of 67 years.

Dale was born September 22nd, 1956, in Shellbrook Saskatchewan. He was the first son and second child of Ernie and Doris Schwehr. Dale grew up with his sisters and brother on the farm at Sugar Hill and attended school in Canwood. Dale was active in 4H and participated in high school drama, curling, and student council.

Upon completing his grade twelve Dale moved to Prince Albert. Dale worked at several jobs over the years, learning bookkeeping and other skills. He later attended SIAST where he received his Red Seal Chef.  He enjoyed whatever he was doing, but his favorite job was cooking for the residents at Whispering Pine Place in Canwood. He always said, “It’s not really work.” As a bonus, he got to work alongside Marsha.

Dale met Marsha at a dance in Cookson. They got married in 1980 in Hay River, NWT. Their son Richard was born in 1981, followed by their daughter Lindsey in 1984. Dale’s children were very important to him. He was proud of Richard and Lindsey’s accomplishments. Dale and Marsha lived at Sugar Hill until the fall of 2007 when they moved their house to town.

Dale had many interests. His team of horses meant so much to him – working with them, sleigh rides, Christmas carols, and just having a great time. Dale loved to visit and was never too busy for a cup of coffee or a drink. He loved old-time dancing. Camping was a big part of Dale’s life. He especially enjoyed Emma Lake and Nesslin Lake. Dale loved to entertain, and he was a fabulous cook. Dale also loved to travel with Marsha. They took many trips to Hay River and to Alberta where he enjoyed spending time with Marsha’s family. He always looked forward to their trips to Maui, he loved the sun!

Family meant everything to Dale. He loved Richard and Lindsey and quickly welcomed Corrine and Emery into the family. Dale’s grandchildren Reese, Lincoln, and Anders brought so much joy to his life, and he just lit up when they were around. He was never too busy where they were concerned!

Dale was so proud to be from Canwood and he was very involved in the community. He was a member of many groups over the years including the Canwood Elks Club and the Zion Lutheran Church. He volunteered in many ways whether it was cooking, canvassing, helping to organize events, or any other duties required to make a community event successful. Dale felt he had everything he needed in life living in the community he loved with his family close by.

Dale is lovingly remembered by his wife Marsha; children and grandchildren – Richard (Corrine) & Anders Schwehr, Lindsey (Emery) Reese & Lincoln Hamborg; siblings and families - Sandra (Ron) Willner, Russell (Colleen) Schwehr, Susan (Darcy) Coleman; siblings-in-law and families - Dick (Sharon) DeLancey, Bob DeLancey, Jim DeLancey, Reg (Debra) DeLancey, Don (Kim) DeLancey, Evelyn (Richard) Dewinetz; aunts: Ruth Gjerde and Carlene Anderson; numerous cousins and extended family.
