Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. Joan was predeceased by her parents Kathleen & Archibald Symes as well as numerous aunts & uncles. Joan was born January 15, 1938. She was the first of five children of Archie and Kathleen Symes. Joan grew up at Frenchmen Butte, Sask; in her younger years she loved riding her horse Jiggs. She graduated school and went on to college to become a teacher and eventually ended up in Spiritwood. It was there that she met a young ball player and local farmer. They were married on August 20, 1959 and she also had five children. She left teaching full time to look after her children and help out on the farm. Joan loved gardening, visiting with neighbors, going to dances and curling. She really enjoyed the Ladies Bonspiel. Joan played hard but she worked even harder. It was while working on the farm some time ago that an accident happened and Joan's life was changed forever. When she woke up from the accident, although her mind was as sharp as ever, her body would no longer do what she wanted it to do. With determination and hard work she recovered remarkably but was never quite the same. Joan still loved curling and would watch her children curl. She would travel with them to bonspiels and High School Championships. For as long as she could, she would attend the Ladies Bonspiel and fun night.
