Obituary of Aganetha Bergen

It’s with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the passing of Aganetha “Nettie” Bergen on December 8, 2023, at the Big River Health Centre at the age of 87 years. Nettie was born on August 3rd, 1936 in Garthland, SK, where she lived on her family farm. Nettie was the 3rd of 4 daughters born to Isaak and Justina Bergen (nee Sawatzky) and she was raised and worked on her family farm. In the early 1950’s and not so far down the road in Wingard, SK, Nettie met the love of her life Bob. Nettie and Bob married in 1955, lived on the farm for a while and then in the early sixties made their forever home in Prince Albert.

Nettie was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom raising 3 kids where she ran a strict but loving household, and did not work outside the home until the 1980’s cleaning at The Bay and a local law office.

Nettie and Bob had a love story that lasted the ages and celebrated 65 years of marriage until Bob’s passing in January of 2021.

Nettie is survived by her daughter Linda Bergen of Calgary, AB; her sons, Rod (Laura) Bergen of Prince Albert and Miles (Lynne) Bergen of Prince Albert; 5 grandchildren, Taryn (Ryan) Hill of Calgary, AB, Kimberly (Michael) Klassen of Calgary, AB, Luke (Meaghan Mosher) Stephenson of Calgary, AB, Hannah and Aidan Bergen of Prince Albert, SK.  Nettie was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren, Alice and Archer Hill of Calgary, AB, Joseph “Joe” and Henry Klassen of Calgary, AB.  Nettie is also survived by her sisters, Stella (Ed) Garett, Tena Bergen, Mary Kelly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nettie was predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob” Bergen, her parents Isaak and Justina Bergen, her in laws William and Maria Bergen; as well as numerous brothers and sisters- in -law, nieces, and nephews.

A Service and Celebration of Nettie’s Life will be held in the summer of 2024.
