Obituary of Ruby Martin
Mrs. Ruby Martin (nee: Atkins)
On Sunday, October 13, 2013 Mrs. Ruby Mary Martin passed away in Canwood, SK at the age of 89 years. Ruby was born on April 3, 1924 in Broadview, SK. She was raised in Madis, SK, where she took part of her schooling then finishing in Duncan, B.C. Ruby was a nurse, she did not go to college, she trained on the job. Ruby worked at the Sanatorium in Prince Albert in the late 50’s. She then moved on to work at the old Victoria Union Hospital in the 60’s, then in the 1970’2 she worked at the Community Clinic in Canwood until her retirement. Ruby loved to travel; she went on lots of trips with her family. She especially loved going to B.C. to visit her sister Joyce and her family as well as her parents. She loved knitting; we always knew we would be getting warm clothes from grandma for Christmas. She was also very good at sewing. She made all of her 12 grandchildren teddy bears. Berry picking was another one of her past times, but her most favorite time was Christmas Eve. That’s when her kids and grandchildren all got together. We all gathered at grandma and papas house, I think it was everyone’s favorite time. Ruby married the love of her life Herman Martin on March 31, 2000 in Outlook, SK. She was so blessed to have him. He devoted his life to her, and when she took ill he never left her side. He was with her to the very end. Ruby is lovingly survived by her husband Herman Martin; her sons Bud (Alice) Krestianson & Tom (MaryJean) Schapansky; her sister Joyce Edwards and her children Debbie, Wendy, and Chris; her sister in-law Joyce (Ken) Heinbecher and their son Clark; her daughter in-law Gloria Sheremata; her grandchildren & great grandchildren Rodney Schapansky and children Brendon, Brittaney and Briana; Shelley Kushneryk and children Zachary and Hannah; Michael (Sandra) Schapansky and his children Johnathan and Alissa; Michelle (Tom) Gutka; Jeff (Melissa) Schapansky and children Malachi and Zayven; Rick Schapansky and his daughter Pamela (Tyler) Eggan and daughter Brielle; Lori (Ron) Hart and children Cody (Ashley Moore) and son Braxton; Brayden, and Briana; Leanne (Steve Booth) Schapansky and children Shallan and Kyera; Ryan (Robyn Raque) Schapansky and children Jade and Josie; Lindsay Krestianson; Laura Crowe and daughter Jolene; Jim (Linda) Crowe and daughter Kaylee; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Ruby was predeceased by her parents Tom Anderson and Jesse Atkins; her son Bob Schapansky; her brother Bill Anderson; her grandchildren Ashley Krestianson and Lana Schapansky.
