Obituary of Louise Evelyn Cote

With heartfelt sadness and precious memories the family annouces the passing of Louise Evelyn, on October 30, 2013 in Saskatoon, at the age of 70. Louise was born December 29 1942 in Barrhead, Alberta, to David and Edith ledger, one of 11 children. Growing up on the farm, they always had stuff to do to keep them busy. Louise spoke fondly of her school days except having to walk 3 miles up hill both ways. The first time Vern met Louise he was working under a car and came out and looked at her and said “I'm going to marry you one day”. She thought he was a little arrogant, but shortly after on a stormy March 3 1962 they were wed, and had a family of 5 children. Memories and favorite things of Louise’s; bee hive hairdo, picnics, camping, summer gatherings, Christmas with family, Boxing day with the Cote girls, for her daughters the daily coffee time with a sympathetic ear, warm heart, and words of wisdom, for her sons their weekly calls on Sunday just to chat and catch up, family reunions meant the world to her. Louise instilled in her children that family was #1, her delicious cooking, baking, and commitment to always making everyone’s favorites, cabbage rolls, pickled beets, pineapple rice, carrot salad, and who can forget the cookies, the delicious poutine that her and Vern made famous from Village Video, her caring, loving and fun nature, playing games, practical jokes, and the beautiful Christmas decorations she gave her family every year. Her marriage of 51 yrs to Vern had hardships and many good memories. Louise worked at several different jobs and gave a 110% at all of them, but none of them gave her as much satisfaction as raising her 5 children. They started Village Video, working very hard at pleasing her customers and always had a smile on her face. She was very well respected by family and friends. She was a big part of the health care auxiliary and volunteering at the Evergreen. Her battle with cancer started in February 2013. Never complaining and was more concerned about her family’s feelings than her own. She told a lot of people if love could cure her she would be cured. She was a strong lady and was known to turn bad situations into something positive. She took things one day at a time and always knew tomorrow would be better. Louise had a beautiful 51 year marriage, raised 5 wonderful loving children, seen her 13 grandchildren grow into caring people, and got to enjoy her 10 great grandchildren. She created a family legacy of love. Louise leaves to cherish her memories; her loving husband, Vern, her children; Daniel(Yvette), Valerie(Armand), Darrin(Andrea), Colette(Stan), Denny, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Her siblings: Jim (Marlene) Ledge, Edith (Elmer) Edwards, Rose (Alex) Grywul, Dave (Simmona) Ledger, Vern (Betty) Ledger, Marie (Bill) Grywul, Rick (Jackie) Ledger, Doreen (Joe) Bajda, Bev (Randy) Yakamuk; her in-laws: Alice Rivard, Eileen Voroba, Joyce (Ed) Hrynkiw, Ron McGillis, Ed Hanson, her extended family: Sherri Gillie and children: Kevin (Angela) and daughter, Rylee; Ryan (Shana); Sarah (Chris) and numerous other relatives and countless friends. She is predeceased by: Her parents, David and Edith Ledger, her father and mother-in-law, Ulric and Gertrude Cote, her sisters, Patricia and Coroline, her in-laws: Lillian (Robert) Debray; Florence (Ed) Lemieux; Phil Rivard; Esther (Gerard) Rivet; Margaret (Emile) Blanchard; Ellen (Maurice) Lepage; Gladys (Walter) Kondra; Doris (Bob) Lepage; and Don Veroba.
