Obituary of Alois Matzner

Matzner- Alois passed away peacefully in Leoville, Sask. on October 5, 2006 at the age of 97 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Ervin (Evelyn) of Leoville, SK; Walter (Helen) of Chitek Lake, SK; Harry (Louise) of Chitek Lake, SK; Gerald (Twyla Mino) of Valleyview, AB and Donald (Kathy) of Pike Lake, SK. 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. 4 half sisters and 1 half brother as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife Sarah (Wolfe) Matzner in 2003. His parents Anna (Schober) & Alois Matzner. His stepmother Cornella (Antypowich) Matzner. His grandson Kelly Ingram. His brother Joseph and a sister Annie. Alois was born September 11, 1909 in Germany, the youngest of three children. His father immigrated to Canada in 1912 and found work on a farm in the Saskatoon area. One year later he was joined by his wife and children. His Mother, Anna's health declined and she passed away in 1918 at the age of 39 years. After sometime Alois' Dad remarried Cornella Peters, a widow with eight children. To this union six children were born. The merged family lived on Alois' Dad's farm near Clarksboro. Alois grew up with 16 brothers and sisters, it was a busy household. In 1934 Alois married Sara Wolfe. They moved to BC for a time but returned to Saskatchewan in 1936. In 1940 they moved to the farm west of Leoville with their 3 sons Ervin, Walter and Harry. Two more sons, Gerald and Donald completed their family. They farmed at that location until their retirement in 1974 when they moved to Chitek Lake. Alois was an avid gardener and fisherman. Although he retired, his interest in the farm remained and he would return to help in the busy season. In 2003 Alois lost his beloved wife, Sara, after almost 70 years of marriage. In April 2004 he became a resident of Evergreen Health Centre where he stayed until his passing. Alois took great pride in his family and always maintained a keen interest in his children and their families, remembering the names of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren and sharing in their achievements. The Funeral Service was held Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 from the Chitek Lake Community Hall with Rev. Don Unger officiating. The organist was Ruth French and Naomi Unger was the music director. Ben Ericson gave the eulogy. Alois was laid to rest in the Penn Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evergreen Health Centre. Beau "Lac" Funeral Home of Spiritwood was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
