I would just like to express my sincere sympathy to June and all of Byrnne's family. I worked with Byrnne in Moose Jaw and I always appreciated his intelligence, uniqueness and his commitment to anything he did. As a fellow horse person, I enjoyed our time spent talking about our mutual horse passion and would like to say thank you for all he did for the horse industry in Saskatchewan.

Please accept our sincerest condolences. As he and I studied side by side to become veterinarians at the Ontario Veterinary College, I came to know and appreciate Brynne. We are so saddened to hear of Byrnne's passing. He was truly a gifted person in a multitude of ways, not only as a veterinarian, but in his ability to assess people and situations, his sharp and subtle wit, his ability to recount stories and his great compassion for both people and animals. I remember listening intently to many often hilarious accounts of Byrnne's experiences and the Rothwell visits to our Birch Hills farm were highlights for all of us. We are so fortunate to have had his wonderful influence in our lives. Our condolences to all.

Dear Rothwell family, I wanted to express my sympathy. Dr. Rothwell was special to me. It was many years ago that I had just graduated from veterinary college. I was on a committee with him, and had the chance to get to know him. He was very supportive of me as I was going through some professional struggles. I will always be grateful for his gentle and caring manner, his bright smile and his mentorship. Thinking of you...

Dear June and Family:
We were profoundly saddened to hear of Byrnne’s death. We wish to extend to you and all your family our sincere condolences.
Byrnne was an exceptional person, one who gave thoughtful contributions to our society, and who principally placed the values of his wife and family before all else.
I greatly appreciated his love of literature and his poetry and I think the “Epitaph on a Friend” by Robert Burns so aptly describes the essence of Byrnne (who was, I think, a true Scot at heart).
An honest man here lies at rest,
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d;
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
Our Blessings to you, June and to your children who will be a source of strength and support for you in the future. Our deepest sympathies to you all at this difficult time. We have only the fondest of memories for you and for Byrnne, and truly mourn his loss.
With kind regards,
Mae & Colin Smith

I am sorry for your lose,
Byrnne was a close family friend and an outstanding Vet, great family man and a big supporter of his community. I remember many visits at the family farm with lots of laughter and story telling. Byrnne would often stop by unannounced after completing a vet call on his way home for a coffee and quite often for some of mom's freshly backed buns.(he had an uncanny ability to know when they were fresh).
I remember watching dad and Byrnne standing by the fence watching with great admiration their prize Morgan stallion, Apache, as he would prance around. Many good times.
Although I have not kept in touch recently, I consider it a privilege to be able to have know Byrnne and call him a special friend.
My condolences to his family,
Don Espeseth

My sincere condolences on your loss of a great man, husband, father and grandfather. It is a loss the entire veterinary and livestock community in Saskatchewan shares. Byrnne was known for his compassion and wisdom, and his dedication.
Personally, Byrnne was a mentor to me when I started working for CFIA, and remained a friend and co-conspirator working on equine health issues through SHF. I shall miss his wise counsel, his humour and his deep appreciation for life, nature and the animals we share this world with.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Dr. Rothwell has touched our hearts many time over the years as a vet and as a great friend. He never did make it up for coffee but we did manage to have supper with him in Shellbrook one day. Learned lots of good stories and have very many fond memories of visiting with him,whether it was meeting him in Walmart or filling up with gas. (The story was always told each time about the bull getting out of the vet clinic and them having to chase it down only to have it die of a heart attack). Will miss him dearly..Rest in peace Brynne...you have earned your wings

It is with great sadness that I learned of Brynne's passing. What a privilege it was for me to get to know him as a veterinary colleague. We interacted many times during activities of the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association, an organization that Brynne was a significant contributor to for many years. Brynne's opinions on Association issues were always well-reasoned, informed, and delivered with dignity and respect for the views of others. In one's lifetime there are many riches, awards, business promotions, and consumer goods one can accumulate. At the end of that lifetime not very many of those things matter. What DOES matter is what Brynne Rothwell had in spades: he was a man of faith, devoted to his family and profession, and he was a true gentleman in a world that often doesn't understand the meaning of that virtue anymore.
