Obituary of Marie Madeleine Isabelle Houde

HOUDE – Marie Houde passed away on March 6th, 2014 in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan at the age of 91 years. Marie was born in Debden, Sask on October 7th, 1922 to Amedee and Alphonsine Ruel. She grew up in Debden in a family of 16 siblings. She married Raymond Houde on June 29th, 1942. They farmed in the Debden area where they raised seven children. While on the farm, Marie planted big gardens, picked berries, and prepared many delicious meals for many people. Marie was also the Avon lady for the area and a member of the Ladies Club. In 1975, Ray and Marie were flooded off their farm so they moved to town. Once in town, Marie continued her education getting her grade 10! She also worked as a custodian and care-giver. Marie loved to quilt, knit, camp and play crib or cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed driving her car around the countryside while listening to the radio. Marie always had to be on the look-out for her husband’s pranks but she was always a good sport and would get even in the end. She shared her sense of humor with her children: Madeline (Robert) Girod of Leask, SK., Lucille (Henri) Bisson of La Broquerie, MB., Aline(Ted) Cartier of Millet, AB., Suzanne (Roger) Musick of St. Pierre, MB., Lise (Andre) Degagné of Morin Lake, SK., Anne (Louis) Blais of Debden, SK., and her daughter-in-law Therese Houde of Debden, SK., 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, her siblings: Henriette Bilodeau, Denise Lajeunesse, Rebecca Paquette, Laurent Ruel, her in-laws: Wilfrid Fortier, Murielle Ruel, Clémence Paquette Bandet, Gérard (Edna) Houde, Ulrica (Florian) Robin, Edgar (Angela) Houde and Sr. Priscilla Houde, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. She is predeceased by her: parents, Amedée and Alphonsine Ruel, parents-in-law, Emile and Eva Houde, husband, Raymond Houde, son, André Houde, grandson, Paul Houde and great grandson, Brady Girod, grandsons-in-law, Gilbert Aubin and Don Bonnamour, numerous siblings and other extended family. Prayer Service was held Sunday, March 9th, 2014, and the Mass of Christian Burial held Monday, March 10th, 2014 both held at the St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church in Debden, Saskatchewan. Celebrant was Father Sebastian Kunnath. Memorial Donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Debden Heritage Manor.
