Obituary of Russell Brettle

Mr. Russell Brettle, late of Shell Lake, passed away on November 2, 2006. Russell was born June 20, 1935, the seventh and last child to Henry and Lilian Brettle. He took Government correspondence and later went to school at Cresco, riding his horse named "Pat". In 1955 he moved with his parents from the homestead north east of Mildred to the present home location. On November 23, 1968, Russell married Edith (Fines). They raised three boys - Henry, Glenn and Bev. Russell was a farmer all his life, raising cattle, pigs and sheep. He also worked off the farm doing mechanic work and working for the Department of Highways for 23 years. He retired from there in 1994. Russell not only enjoyed dancing, but also playing accordion. He played at many a dance. Russell enjoyed children all his life. Each child whose life he touched was taught how to eat Mandarin oranges sprinkled with sugar. Some of those, now grown and with children of their own, still enjoy an orange the way Russell taught them. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 37 years, Edith; his sons Henry, Glenn (Dora) and their children Sylvia, Shane and Travis, Beverly (Bev) and their children Damon, Melissa and Charlene; his sisters Pat Rogers and Joyce Roth, his sisters in-law Delores Brettle and Marge Brettle as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Lilian Brettle, his brothers Harry and Stan, his sisters Grace (Roy) Holtorf and Nellie (in infancy); his brother's in-law George Rogers and Bill Roth, his niece Heather Rogers and his nephew Gary Brettle. The memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Lion's Hall in Shell Lake with Bryce Smith as the officiant. The urn bearer was Damon Belanger and honorary pallbearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Russell's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Parkinson's Disease Foundation 108B - 3502 Taylor St. E. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7H 5H9.
