Obituary of Elsie Prosser

Mrs. Elsie Prosser 1920 - 2014 With heavy hearts the family of Elsie Prosser, late of Shellbrook, announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the age of 94 years. Elsie was born on April 2, 1920 in the Brightholme District to Bertha and Lawrence Brough. She married Cyril Prosser on November 8, 1939. Elsie and Cyril farmed for many years side by side with Elsie helping drive the machinery and still having time to tend her huge garden where she sold vegetables to Koppang’s Store for many years. When work was done Elsie and Cyril loved to take the day off to go fishing. Elsie was one of the founding members of the Cameo Hilldrop Ladies Guild; she was also a secretary of the Cameo School Board for over 25 years. Elsie was the president of the Shellbrook Sub Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society for many years as well. In 1982, Cyril and Elsie moved to town where they enjoyed retirement until Cyril’s passing in 1988. Elsie will be remembered by her family and friends as a very proud, hardworking, independent, stubborn, generous, most loving soul. Elsie took great pride in doing just about everything and anything herself. In her 80’s, Elsie would still be seen changing her oil in her own lawn mower, sharpening blades and tune up her neighbour’s lawn mowers. Elsie enjoyed baking buns, making jam, canning all kinds of fruit, making Christmas pudding and cakes. She always had cookies baked for the grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and of course the family won’t forget her famous pink mallow. Elsie took great pride in her garden; she enjoyed picking berries, and most importantly loved sharing with family and friends. Elsie was known for her amazing memory, never forgetting a birthday, a special event, stories with dates and years were always correct and an amazing memory for phone numbers. Elsie was truly in her element of joy when she was visiting with family and friends. She was so proud of her great grandchildren, always keeping track of each one whether in school, university, work or sports. Elsie was so very proud of a recent picture that was taken of her family showing five generations. She held onto that picture closely and wanted to share it with everyone. Elsie will be lovingly survived by her son, Stan (Lois) Prosser; her grandchildren, Garry Prosser, Val (Lorne) Thompson; her great grandchildren, Amanda (Colin) Chrabaszcz, Adam Prosser, Vanessa Thompson, Blake Thompson, Lily Prosser; her great, great grandaughter, Grace Chrabaszcz; as well as several nieces, and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Cyril on July 3, 1988; her parents, Lawrence & Bertha Brough; her 2 daughters, Maureen in 1940 and Beverley in 1959; her brother in infancy; her sister, Doris Prosser; her brothers-in-law, Francis Prosser and Desmond Prosser; and her sister-in-law, Camilla Prosser. The Memorial Service for Elsie took place on Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Shellbrook, SK.
