Mrs. Somers, Craig, Pam and families. My sincere condolences on the passing of a great man. There are no words to describe the impact David had on me when I was a young man. He was the only teacher that challenged me to do better, to not accept mediocrity, and not surprisingly the only teacher that was able to make me behave. He did this not by intimidation or punishment, but by being a role model of great character. He treated me with respect yet gave me the boot in the behind when I needed it.
David taught me my first hunter safety course and coincidentally took me hunting for the first time. He taught not only respect for animals but for firearms as well. When I taught my children those exact same principles, I thought back to him.
While serving in the Army I had the opportunity to teach hundreds of medics not only medical knowledge and tasks, but lessons learned from people like David.
David was a big part of who I am today, and I can't begin to thank him. My only regret is not keeping in touch with you all over the years. I was home this summer for a few days only and we talked about you and how you were. Mom said that David was battling cancer and unfortunately we did not have your address or phone number.
Please accept our deepest sympathies and know that he is with God.
