Obituary of Exelda Marie Alice Emde

Exelda Emde 1922 - 2014 Surrounded by her loving family, Exelda went peacefully to be with her Lord on Tuesday the 26th day of August, 2014, at the age of 92. Exelda was born on her parents’ farm in Big River on January 22, 1922. She lived and worked in the area the majority of her life, doing a variety of jobs including cooking in logging camps where she met her husband, Fred. They were married September 16, 1953 and spent 45 years together until Fred's death in 1998. They made their home together in Big River and were blessed with 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was also affectionately known as Grandma Emde by numerous children in town that she babysat over the years. She was very committed to her church and was an active member of the CWL and Lakewood Lodge Auxiliary. Exelda was an excellent cook, and was well known for her homemade bread and buns. Everyone was always welcomed into the family home for coffee and dainties whether you were a long-time friend or a first-time visitor. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and community. In Exelda's honor there was a Prayer Service held on Sunday, August 31st, 2014 and a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 1st, 2014 both services being held from the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Big River SK, with Father Sebastian Kunnath officiating. Exelda leaves to cherish her memory: Her children: Robert (Bette) Emde, Port Alberni, BC and family: Trish; Kevin (Tyla) & son, Ben; Raymond (Terry) Emde, St. Brieux, SK and family: Scott & daughter, Rowan; Mark; Shawn; Darlene (Tim) Neuman, Prince Albert, SK and family: William; Daniel (Aden); Jennifer (JR); Joanne Ridley, Saskatoon, SK and family: Janna (Tom); Clifford; Patrick; Garry (Luaine) Emde, Saskatoon, SK; Noreen Emde, Big River, SK, Her siblings: Therese Chenard, Medicine Hat, AB, Ed (Dora) Caissie, Williams Lake, BC, Yvonne Simpson, 100 Mile House, BC, Marie Lamothe, Williams Lake, BC, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is predeceased by: her husband, Frederick, her parents, Joseph and Bibianne Caissie, her brothers, Arias Richard, Norman Caissie, her brothers-in-law, Nap Chenard, Vic Simpson, Emile Lamothe.
