Obituary of Muriel Switenky

Mrs. Muriel Switenky 1924 - 2014 With heavy hearts the family of Mrs. Muriel Switenky, late of Big River, formerly of Prince Albert, announce her passing on October 22, 2014 at the age of 89 years. Muriel was born December 3rd, 1924 to Emma and Daniel Cook in Prince Albert, SK. Muriel spent her early years on the farm in the Paddockwood area. After her fathers passing she and her mother moved to Prince Albert. Muriel completed a business course, and in 1954 she married the love of her life, Joseph Switenky. Together they raised three daughters, Karen, Faye and Colleen. Muriel’s hobbies included knitting and baking. She also had an entrepreneurial spirit; she enjoyed selling Tupperware, lingerie and Avon. She was known to many as the “Avon lady” for over 30 years. Muriel also kept busy providing day care services for many children over the years. Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen (George) Nicolai; Faye (Michael) Woodward; and Colleen (Greg) Christianson; her grandchildren, Philip (Laura) Woodward and their children, Anna and Clara; Garrett, Edward, Daniel, and Tori Nicolai; and Nicole Christianson; her sister Dorothy Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Muriel is predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Emma Cook; her loving husband, Joseph Switenky in Nov. 1997; her sisters, Grace Hickey, and two sisters in infancy, Leta and Flossi; and her brothers, Don and Art Cook. The Funeral Service for Muriel will take place on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from the Evangelical Free Church in Big River, SK, with Pastor Jason Boucher as Officiant. The interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. from the South Hill Cemetery in Prince Albert, with Celebrant Val Bodnaryk officiating. Following the interment family and friends are welcome to share a time of lunch and fellowship in the Legion Hall in Prince Albert. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Muriel to the Lakewood Lodge Auxiliary (Box 100 Big River, SK. S0J 0E0).
