Obituary of Curtis Larson
The family of Curtis Larson are deeply saddened to announce his passing on November 28, 2006 at the age of 80. He was born on August 1, 1926 to Carl and Alice Larson in a farm house near Glenbush, SK. He spent his childhood years on a farm near Belbutte. His first job was working on a farm near Cut Knife and then in a logging camp near Lac La Biche, AB. He returned home to help on the family farm with his dad and brother. On November 10, 1950, he married Joan Learmonth. They continued to work together on the family farm and raised 6 children; Leila, Evelyn, Connie, Audrey Willis and Lana. Curtis was a steadfast, honest, loving and hardworking father. He was never idle for long-there was always something to do. Curtis lived his life in a way that showed us his moral values and his belief in God. After his wife's passing in 1996, Curtis learned how to cook and became fairly good at it. His love of farming continued even after he left the farm. When he "retired", he pursued his love of fishing. Family was very important to him and he never missed an opportunity to attend family reunions and gatherings. He enjoyed community events and served as councilor of the RM of Medstead and on the Idylwild Lodge Board for a number of years. He will be missed by family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his children Leila (Oral) Zacharias of Meadow Lake, SK, Evelyn Keller of Tualatin, Oregon, Connie (Stan) Pauls of Winkler, MB, Audrey (Melvin "Mel") Abramson of Moosomin, SK, Willis Larson (Geraldine Croston) of Belbutte, SK and Lana (Bill) Rogalsky of Saskatoon, SK; 24 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren & 1 Foster Grandchild; a sister Hazel (Perce) Egerton of Richmond Hill, ON, a sister in law Mae Larson of North Vancouver, BC as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Joan; a son in law Ed Keller and a brother Lawrence. The funeral service was held on Sunday, December 3rd, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. from the Medstead Community Hall with Kenneth Agrey as the officiant. Oral Zacharias lead the congregational singing with Sal Orange on the piano. The hymns were When They Ring Those Golden Bells, Battle Hymn of the Republic, It is Well With My Soul, and Just A Closer Walk With Thee. The eulogy was read by Leila Zacharias. The honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Curtis's life and the active pall bearers were Warren Iverson, Burt Friesen, Lloyd Lessard, Ray Gatzke, Vern Iverson and Clarence Iverson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church in North Battleford or donor's choice. Curtis was laid to rest in the Bapaume Cemetery.
