Obituary of Jean Isabelle Hansen

JEAN HANSEN (SHAW) 1927 - 2014 Jean Isabel Hansen (nee Shaw) passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon on Sunday November 2, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Jean started her life journey November 25, 1927 in Cabri, SK to Charles and Anna Shaw before moving to the homestead near Bapaume, SK in 1932. There she was provided a sister Carrol (Brisbourne) and later a brother Norman. Jean worked at the Waskasu Lodge and then as a nurse’s aid at the Spiritwood Hospital until her marriage to Otto in 1950. Living on the Hansen homestead she became a kind, loving mother to children Ronald (Joan Dzialo), Alan (Lucille), Sharon (Tim Gagne), Linda Iverson, Richard (Corrina) a wonderful grandmother to Lisa, Shawn, Becky, Hanna, Sherry, Dayne, Jennifer, Alan, Dustun, Dana, Kayla, Cody, Roxanne, Jeffrey and Michael and an amazing great grandmother 16 times to Ethan, Taylor, Lukas, Owen, Ethan, Max, Ben, Mia, Nova, Ella, Rain, Asher, Avery, Adelynn, Corbin and Holden. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Otto; her grandson Carl; and parents Charles and Anna Shaw. The Funeral service for Jean was conducted from the Spiritwood Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Saturday November 8th, 2014 with Pastor Brock Shaver officiating. Tim Gagne and Sherry and Lionel Peyachew gave the eulogy. Organist Carolyn Voss beautifully performed hymns selected by Jean. Active pallbearers were Jeff Hansen, Michael Hansen, Shawn Hansen, Dayne Hansen, Dustun Iverson and Cody Iverson. An outpouring of emails from the grandchildren all expressed these next words “I struggle to find words to express the great sense of loss that has come with the passing of my Grandma. When I think of her, the word "golden" keeps coming to me. She truly had a heart of gold, always finding things to give to everyone. She was the epitome of a positive attitude, always going with the flow and had a smile on her face and a warm laugh. A big part of my childhood was spent at Grandma and Grandpa's and hardly anything was off limits, if we weren't allowed to touch it, it was because she didn't want us to get hurt. I will never forget the many summer picnics, blanket forts, playing in "the blue room and the green room", painting on fabrics with her acrylic paints, the giant floor pillow, the smell of baking and Christmas dinners. My dad probably described her best the other night, "she's our angel". I will never forget her kindness, her laugh and her loving hands. Thank you Grandma for building this family, the beautiful memories and for being a wonderful person.” Written by granddaughter Roxanne Levis (nee Hansen) Internment was held at the Bapaume cemetery. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Idylwild Lodge and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
