Obituary of Bruce Edward Chaykowski

BRUCE CHAYKOWSKI 1959-2015 Bruce was born April 1st, 1959 in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan where he later attended school. At the age of 14, he moved in with Tom Forshner, on his farm north of Mildred. He would work for Tom and sometimes Bev Phelps after school. He developed a strong work ethic that would stay with him for life. When he realized that he knew more than the teachers, he decided to leave school and enter the work force. As a young teenager, he headed out to Alberta to work for Ed and Bill Construction and ending up working in Alberta for most of his life in the oilfield industry. In 1980, he married Bernadette Pelchat from Shell Lake. They made a home for themselves in Spruce Grove, AB. Later that year, they were blessed with their first son, Ryan. His life was forever changed. Becoming a father was his greatest accomplishment. 2 1/2 years later, Donnie was born, making him a proud father once again. Then in 1985, Lisa came along to keep them all in line, including Bruce. Work took the family to Rainbow Lake, AB which is where they raised their family. Around 2001, he was wanting to live a more peaceful life and his heartstrings pulled him back home. He bought his acreage near Mildred and he was finally home. He loved the wide open space, fresh air and watching the birds out his window. He enjoyed entertaining at his home. Many great times were had around his kitchen, from frying fish, making sausage to the Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings that he loved so much. He was so excited to have his kids and grandchildren come home for Christmas a couple years ago. He spent a month decorating for the celebration. We could see that he was in his glory. Bruce had a love for the outdoors. He loved hitching up the horses and going out for a sleigh ride. It seemed like he couldn’t get enough fishing in, whether it was in the summer out on the boat or on the ice in the winter. He finally caught the big one in March, a 23lb Northern Pike! Bruce was a devoted father to Ryan, Donnie and Lisa, a doting grandpa to Emercyn, Eberle and Nova, a caring son to his mother, Fern, loving brother to Keith, Brenda, Kathy, Val and Chris. He was well liked by everyone he met and a treasured friend to more people than he even realized. He had an infectious laugh, a fun loving, mischievous personality and a heart larger than life. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met, which was usually a smile. That is exactly how we will remember him, with a smile… We’d like to think that he is up in Heaven looking down on us and saying, “looky here, I’ve got a bite!” Bruce is lovingly remembered by: His children: Ryan, Donnie (Bliss) and family, Emercyn, Eberle and Nova, Lisa (Dave), His mother, Fern, His siblings: Keith (Debbie), Brenda (William), Valerie (Bernie), Kathy (Dave) Lange, Chris (Pam), the mother of his children, Bernadette, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He is predeceased by: his father, Henry, his sisters, Corine and Linda.
