Obituary of Donald Henry Aiken
Donald Henry Aiken lost his battle with cancer on June 21, 2015 with his family at his bedside. Don was born November 20, 1943 in Prince Albert to Homer and Evelyn (Hicke) Aiken. He grew up at Christopher Lake and earned money at an early age by working part time for Jim Smith and at Martodam Garage. He moved to Prince Albert in 1962 to work as partsman at Arcade Motors. In 1972 joined P. A. Pulpwood as stores foreman then as purchaser at Woodland Enterprises till 1994. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 2004. In his retirement years Don enjoyed his driving days for Riverside Dodge and Riverside Hyundai. He met Sandi Haydukewich at a dance at Henribourg and they married April 13, 1968. Don was extremely proud of his family; son Ryan (Tammy Gobeil), daughter Sheryl (Regan Lepine) and the joys of his life his grandchildren; Jenna and Nicolas Aiken, Taran and Allie Lepine. Their gifts of music, stories, dance, hockey, homemade notes, smiles and especially hugs encouraged him to fight his health battles his last five years. Family was Don’s passion and he inspired us to always work hard and never put off tomorrow what you can do today. He was known for sharing his home made wine, his refinishing touch to furniture, his love of birds, and for many fun trips quadding, fishing, hunting and happy hours. Don and Sandi were blessed with the love of their families, the best of friends, wonderful neighbors, their home away from home cabin at Candle Lake, their many adventurous trips and the 47 years together to live their dreams. Don left this world strong in mind and getting things done to make life the best for his family. Don was predeceased by his parents Homer (1974), Evelyn (1994), sister Dolly (1988), brother Ray (1990) brother- in- law Doug Miller (1994) nephew Ray Miller and great nephew Gerald Anderson (2013); in-laws Joe (1978), Tillie (1996), Ron (2008), Brian (2013) Haydukewich. He leaves to mourn his loving family, his sister-in-law Fran Aiken (Lloyd Forrest), brothers-in-law Garry, Doug (Lea), Terry (Wanda) Haydukewich, many nieces, nephews and cousins. We are extremely grateful to the Registration, Emergency and Ambulatory Care departments at Victoria Hospital, Dr. Surkan and staff, Michelle and staff at Homecare.
