Obituary of Elie Goller

Elie was born in Wakaw Saskatchewan, fifth of twelve children. Took his schooling at Dunafoldvar school. He then purchased farmland southwest of Spiritwood around 1955. In 1961 he married Carol Poor. Elie was rough and tough, happy go lucky with a big loving heart. Elie's favorite saying was there's no such word as can't. He was not afraid of hard work or any task that needed to be done. In 1961 he got a job as P.F.R.A inspector for Prairie Farm Assistance. He was one of the first farmers in the area to raise purebred cattle. Elie took on carpenter jobs with the contractors in Spiritwood area, working on buildings such as hospital, curling and skating rinks, churches and houses. He also worked on oil rigs some winters. With hard work and long hours, he and his family cleared and broke three quarters of land. In about 1970 he and his family moved to Spiritwood and farmed from town. Elie loved growing a big beautiful vegetable garden. He always wanted to grow the biggest and the best. Elie was a proud man. He was proud of his family, his grandchildren and of just being a good farmer. He loved God and tried to bring his family up right. Elie suffered a heart attack in 1999 after which he could not work. In 2005 he had a stroke that paralyzed his right side and took away most of his speech, he then moved into Long Term Care at Spiritwood and District Health Complex. He understood and could communicate and carry on a conversation with his friends and relatives. He loved to come home for shorts visits, meals, trips to the farm, and checking out the kids, crops, cattle, yards and businesses. Elie was notorious for being the fastest berry picker as well for fudging the rules a bit when playing checkers and Kaiser. Elie enjoyed dancing, fishing, hunting, playing cards, discussing politics, reading, visiting and telling stories with friends and family. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of family, community, and looking after the ones we love. Elie is up there now, farming himself a little piece of heaven and watching over his family. His big smile and hearty handshake will be greatly missed. Elie is lovingly remembered by: His loving wife of 53 years, Carol, his children: Connie (Roland) Cote, Grant (Shelley) Goller, Conrad (Paula) Goller, Lori (Marc) Turgeon, Dean (Joanne) Goller, Bradley (Carol) Goller,13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his brothers: Herbert (Shirley); Donald (Adeline); Richard (Ann), his sisters, Caroline Frechette and Bertha Goller, his mother-in-law, Annie Poor, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Simon; Donna Goller; Margaret Goller; Larry Poor; Myrna Westmacott; Debbie Poor, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
