Obituary of Anna Gunda Heisler

Grandmothers Never Really Die - They Just Keep House Up in the Sky. Anna Gunda Tomina (Halvorson) Heisler Jan 20, 1925 – July 29, 2015 Anna, born in Norway, landed in St John , New Brunswick via the SS Monttnairn ship when she was three. Her family travelled with her, except two half-brothers. Anna had very humble beginnings in Canada, Her family settled in Ordale, SK and moved to Mildred after a fire burned their house. Anna was raised to be a hard worker. Anna grew to be an independent young beauty and she travelled by train to Vancouver, B.C to work as a housemaid for a lady for a time. Anna married Theodore Heisler April 12, 1950 and had one son and three daughters. She lived a hard life of a farmer’s wife. She lost her son to a farming accident, and continued to raise her daughters as she was raised, to be the hardest workers in town. She was a feisty wife and fiercely protective mother. In 1979 Theodore sold the farm and built Anna her dream house in Spiritwood. No one was prouder of her home than Anna. She would spend hours in her garden and flower beds. She showed such pride in her home and yard that even in her maturing years she worked relentlessly to keep it all in perfect shape. Anna loved having family and friends in her home. There was never a visit from grandchildren that didn’t end with a giant hug and a trunk full of pie and buns. Anna lived her life looking after Theodore; they were often seen walking around town together. People would giggle as they would watch them turn to each other speaking at volumes anyone living on that street could hear due to them both suffering from hearing loss. Even if they didn’t know what each other said, they knew what each other needed. They spent many hours working in Ted’s wood shop, he would built it and she would finish it. Sadly, Anna lost Ted in 2013. Shortly after Ted’s passing she was given a dog named Oreo. Anna loved looking after Oreo, and when she moved into the lodge in 2014, Oreo went with her. The residents and workers at the lodge loved Anna, she always had a hug for them. They would lovingly call her the clothes horse because she loved having many clothes and took pride in her impeccable outfits until the end. She enjoyed helping out and always stayed busy. Anna passed quietly surrounded by family.
