Obituary of Mary Eleanor AGNEW

MARY ELEANOR AGNEW 1926 - 2015 Agnew (Craig), Mary Eleanor passed away August 23, 2015 at the age of 88. Mary was born in Hartland, New Brunswick on December 18, 1926 & grew up on the family farm in Rockland, NB. Mary & Clayton Agnew were married on August 27, 1955 in Coldstream, New Brunswick. They resided in Shellbrook until March 2010 and then moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Mary was predeceased in March 2015 by her husband Clayton & is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Tom Piper) and their family Joshua Piper (Cara) and their sons Bennett & Beckham, Jason Piper (Ashlee) and their son Hunter; and son Alex (Joanne) Agnew. She is also survived by her special cousin George (Eloise) Craig. Mary attended Carlton Country Vocational School after high school taking a Commercial Course. She then entered Nurses Training at the St John General Hospital. After graduating as an RN Mary worked at the Kingston General Hospital & The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. In the fall of 1954 she accepted the position of Supervisor of the Children’s Ward at City Hospital in Saskatoon. After raising her family, Mary returned to work as the Secretary at the Public Health office in Shellbrook until her retirement. Mary was an active member of the St. Andrews Anglican Church, St Andrews ACW, the Hospital Auxiliary & the Eastern Star. In retirement Mary and Clayton enjoyed travelling and made numerous trips across Canada and to Waskesiu with their 5th wheel trailer. Mary was predeceased by her parents J. Clayton Craig & Laura Craig, in-laws A. Fred Agnew & Sarah Agnew, sisters’ in-laws Thea (George), Phebe (Larry) and Maris; brother in-law Arthur (Eleanor). The Memorial service will be held on Saturday August 29, 2015, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Shellbrook. A private family Interment will be in the Shellbrook Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes donations may be made to the Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Foundation.
