Obituary of Gary Ahenakew

Gary Ahenakew 1949 - 2015 With sadness in their hearts, the family of Gary Ahenakew, late of Ahtahkakoop First Nation, announce his passing on October 4, 2015 at the age of 66. Gary was born on March 15, 1949 on Sandy Lake First Nation to Edith Starblanket and Gordon Ahenakew. Gary is lovingly survived by his children, Andrew Peekeekoot (Michella Baldhead), Carla Peekeekoot-Morin (Alvin Morin), Allison Ahenakew (Onawa McLeod), Chantel Ahenakew (Darren Whitefish), Alana Ahenakew, Brandon Ahenakew; his siblings, Kenny (Ruth) Ahenakew, Darlene Little, Ruby Ahenakew, Kathy (Leonard) Peekeekoot, Sandra (Glen) Peekeekoot, Blanche (Tommy) Isbister, Colin (Angie) Ahenakew, Russell G Ahenakew; his grandchildren, Paris Ahenakew, Rihanna Morin, Shawna Morin, Rachelle Morin, Tatianna Peekeekoot, Keanna Keenatch, Deondre Peekeekoot, Keyon Peekeekoot; as well as numerous nieces, noephews and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his wife, Debra Ahenakew; his daughter Shannon Ahenakew; his parents, Gordon & Edith Ahenakew; his grandparents Edwin & Edith Ahenakew, Emily and George Starblanket; his inlaws, Harvey & Viola Peekeekoot; his siblings, John, Myrna, Brian, and Colin Ahenakew, and Laura Bear. The wake for Gary commenced on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015 at the Ahtahkakoop First Nation Band Hall and the funeral took place on Wed. Oct. 7, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. from the Band Hall with Rev. Marjorie Hyman officiating both services. Pallbearers were, Ryan Peekeekoot, Robin Little, Thomas Ahenakew, Lenny Peekeekoot, Jordan Isbister, Clinton Clark, Travis Little, Alvin Morin, Darren Ahenakew, and Melton Peekeekoot. Interment will take place in the St. Mark's Anglican Cemetery.
