Obituary of Jean Laurent Allard

The family of Jean Allard are deeply saddened to announce Jean's passing on June 24, 2007 at the age of 75 years. He was born on March 13, 1932 to Jean Baptiste E. Allard and Berthe Louise Suteau in their log home on the farm. Jean went to school to North Creek School till the spring of 1946. He drove his first four horse outfit, riding a two bottom 14 inch sulky plough the summer of 1946. Jean liked the threshing time the best, no denying there was lots of hard work, but there were always good times, team work and good fellowship. Jean worked very hard logging north of Leoville. He logged the lumber which was used to build the house which presently sits on Jean's yard site. He married Aline Bruneau in June of 1959 and they had six children. Jean farmed all of his life on the family farm. He was an accomplished carpenter and musician. Jean was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter. He was a self taught welder, mechanic, electrician and jack of all trades. Jean was well-read; history was his passion. He was in a writers club, member of the Lion's club, musician for various community functions, Spiritwood Museum committee member and Spiritwood, Mildred, Norbury Historical Society committee member. Jean enjoyed family get togethers and watching his grand children grow up. He will be remembered and sadly missed by his children Colin (Shelley) Allard and their children Nicholas and Megan of Spiritwood, SK, Elise (Fred) Meister and their children Monique, Luke and Allison of Radison, SK, Leon Allard of Endako, BC, Lynne Allard of Prince Albert, SK, Nicole LaChance (Chuck Lerat) and their children Josie and Jayme LaChance and Nikki Lerat of Rosthern, SK and Melanie Allard and her children Jade and Jean of Saskatoon, SK; his sisters Lucienne Dumas, Leonne Lavoie, Yvonne Valette, Jeanette Dobovich as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents Jean Baptiste in 1962 and Berthe in 1982 and his sister Jeanne Louise Allard 1927 - 1932. Prayer service was held on Friday, June 29, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. from the Sacred Heart RC Church in Spiritwood. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 30th, 2007 at 10 a.m. from Sacred Heart RC Church with Rev. Fr. Dong Doan as the celebrant. The cross bearer was Nicholas Allard. The music director was Bill Martodam and Julia Watson was the violinist. Brian Hrynkiw read the eulogy. An honor guard was formed by the Spiritwood Museum Committee. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Jean's life and the active pall bearers were Raymond Dumas, Paul Dumas, Roger Suteau, Larry Schaan, Gene Suteau and Lee King. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spiritwood Museum or a charity of the donor's choice. Jean was laid to rest in the Laventure Cemetery.
