Obituary of Roland Uclide Soucy

Roland Soucy November 20, 1935 – November 27, 2015 Roland was loved and known by many. He will be remembered as a farmer, an entrepreneur, an inventor, an auction lover, a fabricator, a lumberman, a hard-worker, a salesman, a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend. Roland was always ready with a smile, a wink and a quick joke or story. But underneath that was a strength of both will and character that made him a role model for his family. He started his life farming with his family in Leoville where he learned the importance of hard work. Roland was of the generation where kids left school to work on the farm. But even though his formal education stopped at an early age, he was a life long learner. He self-taught himself everything. He was very talented with equipment and invented both a rock picker and a bin mover. He first learned the art of sales by selling farm equipment and then transferred that to the lumber business when he and Marlene were building their first home together. He loved his work and lived most of his life with two businesses - the family farm and a lumberyard which ran under the name Master Rock Pickers in Leoville then R & M Building Supplied Ltd. in Spiritwood. He loved his family and nothing made him happier than having everyone around his kitchen table sharing a meal. Roland will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marlene Soucy of Leoville, SK, his children; Jilaire (Andrew) Wagner and their children; Camden & Ayda of Saskatoon, SK; Kurt (Jennifer Pereira) Soucy and their children; Severin & Frances of Saskatoon, SK, and Murray (Jennifer) Soucy and children; Karstin, Karley and Rylan of Leoville, SK, his siblings – Leo (Elisa) Soucy, Isabelle (Joe) Horn, Albert (Betty Ann) Soucy, Muriel (Howard) Dickey, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Funeral Service for Roland will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2015 at 11:00am from the St Therese’s RC Church, Leoville, SK.
