Obituary of Hermine Mary Balazsi

Hermine Balazsi July 14, 1923 - December 8, 2015 Leaving a legacy of love and precious memories, Hermine went to be with her Lord on December 8th, 2015 at the age of 92. Hermine immigrated to Canada with her parents Nick and Mary Gyarmati at the age of eight. They resided in Saskatoon, later moving to the Reserve Lake area where she attended school. Hermine became a big sister to Olga in 1932 and Nick in 1934. She married Joseph Balazsi, on January 19, 1939 and settled just south of Rabbit Lake where they farmed and raised four children, Joe Jr., John, Dorothy and Shirley. Hermine had to keep busy and sometimes forgot to step back and enjoy the rewards of her labour. Coffee breaks were not part of her daily schedule, her life was in raising her family, making meals, helping with farm chores, cooking, baking, sewing, mending clothes for her children, caring for a huge garden and preserving vegetables. She shared many memories of this hard work, they were memories she was proud of. Hermine and Joe often stepped in as babysitter and truly enjoyed their grandchildren. Hermine enjoyed spending time with all her family and going to the Senior Centre to play bingo. In 1972 they retired from farming and moved to Spiritwood. Joe suffered a stroke in 1992 and became a resident of the long term care facility in Spiritwood. This was a difficult transition for Hermine; however she persevered, visiting on a daily basis, and continued on with her life living alone in her home. A little over four years ago she decided to move to Rose Gill Lodge in Rabbit Lake where she could still have her independence with minimum assistance. She loved to visit with the other residents and shared many stories of the “good old days” and of course what we were all up to. She was our mother, our grandmother and our great-grandmother who lived a full life. Each and every one of us has special memories that will live on in our hearts. She left to be with the Lord without us being able to say goodbye. It was time to go and we could not deny you that, so continue to tend the gardens in heaven, and keep the cookie jar full, until we meet again. …..With love from your family. Hermine is lovingly remembered by her: Children: John (Marie) Balazsi of Rabbit Lake, SK and family: Terry (Jessica) and children, Taylor, Cassidy & Harlee; Clint (Amanda) and children, Colton & Kylee; Dorothy Mytroen of Mississauga, ON; Shirley (Paul) Dauvin of Spiritwood, SK and family: Michael (Naomi Cameron), Aaron; Joe Jr.’s family: Daryl Balazsi (Dawn Milley), Her brother, Nick Gyarmati, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
