My first job was at Scotts Restaurant and Evie hired me, she was owner and operator. Evie taught me so much about life and work. I am so fortunate that she was a part of my life. I worked for her for her for 4 years and learnt so much from her. She is a person I will never forget, she has a strong spirit and I will always respect and adore her.

I am saddened to hear of Evelyn's passing as she was truly an angel who appeared in my life in the early 1980's in Gays River. I had a young family and was in need of work at the time. Evelyn interviewed me to work at the Restaurant in Shubenacadie and we instantly bonded, a new found friend and mentor that I was in need of at the time. But Evelyn's kindness and compassion didn't stop there, I didn't have a vehicle to travel to work so she lent me hers without question. We had many wonderful days at the restaurant which was very busy and full of laughter! As time passed I moved away to the west and didn't see her again until I moved back to Halifax and was in the hospital visiting my neighbor. Lol and behold in the opposite bed was my long time friend and angel and we remembered each other instantly. A truly wonderful woman who spoke often of her sons and family. She lived just up the road from me so we had many opportunities to chat and have tea. May you find peace at this difficult time. I feel blessed to have known her.
