Obituary of J.J. "Swede" Marion

The family of Swede Marion are deeply saddened to announce Swede's passing on July 23, 2007 at the Evergreen Health Centre at the age of 87 years. Swede was born at Island Hill, SK and his school years were spent in North Battleford. He volunteered for the Armed Forces in 1939 and upon his discharge, he returned to Meadow Lake where he met Stella. They were married in 1946. He worked construction and in camp throughout Saskatchewan and at the Vimy Fire tower at Huard Lake. Swede's retirement years were spent hunting and watching hockey. Swede will be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Stella of Leoville, SK and his son Paul (Lana) Marion of Chitek Lake, SK; his grandchildren Tammy (Keith) Horan and their children Chelsea and Kendall of Prince Albert, SK, Darren (Melanie) Marion and their children Hunter and Tyson of Prince Albert, SK; his sister Marie Staples of Rosetown, SK; his brother Alfred "Sonny" (Marie) Marion of Meadow Lake, SK as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his sons Cyril "Moe" and Al, both in 2000, his parents Jules and Victorine Marion and his three brothers and four sisters. The memorial service was held on Friday, July 27th, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chitek Lake Community Hall with his nephew Pastor David Bodvarson as the officiant. The music director and soloist was Marlene Bodvarson who sang One Day At A Time and led the congregational hymns Amazing Grace and Just A Closer Walk With Thee. The honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Swede's life and the urn bearer was Darren Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Evergreen Health Centre in Leoville, SK or the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Swede was laid to rest in the Peaceful Pines Cemetery in Chitek Lake.
