Obituary of Elsie Franson

Elsie Franson June 3, 1919 – March 5, 2016 Elsie passed away peacefully March 5, 2016 in Leoville, SK at the age of 96 years. Elsie was born June 3, 1919 in Rosthern SK, to John and Helena Andres, the oldest of six children. At an early age, the family moved to a homestead south of Spiritwood, a mile west of Resolute school. Speaking only German when she arrived, she had to learn English when she started school. She attended Resolute school, and along with her siblings, they would walk the mile to school, rain, shine or snow. She attended until grade eight, at which time she left school to go to work. She kept house and helped with children at various places, with wages of about $5 to $7 per month. In May of 1943 Elsie married Francis (John) Franson and moved to his homestead in the Norbury district, where they attended the Norbury Free Methodist Church. In 1945 they bought and moved to the Poloski farm south east of Spiritwood. Here they raised their six children. Although there was lots of farm work to do, she still found time to read, and knit many sweaters for the family and others, by the coal oil lamp before the day of electricity. She loved to entertain, and everyone was always welcome at her table. She called this farm her home until 2008 when she became a resident of the Evergreen Lodge in Leoville where she received wonderful care right to the end. She passed on to be with the Lord, March 5, 2016 at 12:45 PM with family at her side. The funeral service was held Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Lakeland Community Church in Spiritwood. Her service was attended by all but eight of her entire family, consisting of her six children and spouses, sixteen grandchildren, with some spouses, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
