Obituary of Lloyd John Ziegeman

Lloyd (John) Ziegeman 1925 - 2016 Lloyd was born on Oct 27, 1925 to John and Ellen Ziegeman in Kinistino, SK. He lived on Sturgeon Lake Reserve with his parents where his Dad was a farm instructor. They moved from there when Lloyd was still very young to the Lone Spruce District. He went to school in Sturgeon Valley. His first job was picking roots with his Dad. He always said “He was sure those roots sprang up behind him”. He hated that job. When he was around 16 he worked with Arthur Olson doing farm work. Lloyd and Roger Cowells went to Fort Arthur and Port William Ontario to cut pulp wood, but he never cut pulp. Instead he got a job in a cement factory making cement blocks for the winter. He came back to Saskatchewan to help his Dad with chores and farming. Later on he came to Shellbrook to work at the M&S Hardware Store where he spent 5 years, and boarded at Mrs. Jacob’s with Bill Elliott. They teased her about how much money she was making off of them. When he left there he worked in a lumber camp for this uncle Jim Hansen and Wilfred Anderson in the winter. He did farm work with his Dad for another 10 years. He then bought the Toltin Place and started farming on his own. He farmed for 27 years and drove school bus for 15 of those years also. During those years he met and married Hazel Pederson and had four sons and one daughter. But things didn’t work out so they went their separate ways in 1979. In 1981 Lloyd met his soul mate, Bev and has had many happy years together. He sold the farm land in 1982 to the Sawchuck brothers and did some custom combining for other farmers. Lloyd did spring and fall work for the Sawchuck brothers for 10 years. His eye sight was starting to fail him so he sold the acreage in 1999 and moved to Shellbrook. Lloyd sold cars in the early to late 1980’s. He also sold many tractors. He loved it when someone would ask him to look for a tractor, horse, car or anything. He would spend hours of the day phoning people until he found what he was looking for. Lloyd died on March 6, 2016 in Shellbrook, SK. at the age of 90 years.
