Obituary of Donna Eleanor Sarrazin

Donna Sarrazin (1933-2016) Sarrazin, Donna – It is with deep regret that the family of Donna Sarrazin announces her passing on March 18, 2016 in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan at the age of 82. Donna was born to Fred and Pearl Sweet in Menaik AB on November 20, 1933. She went to school in Arbour Park, Ponoka and Wetaskiwin AB. Their family operated a garage, general store and post office, where she learned about welcoming and serving customers. In the spring of 1951, while waitressing, she met George Sarrazin. They were married on November 29, 1951 in Wetaskiwin AB. For the next two years, they would return home to George’s family farm, west of Spiritwood, working the land in the summers and returning to the rigs in the winter. They lived in a grainery on his Dad’s farm, as well as, with family. During this time Edward and Evelyn were born. They moved to their own farm in 1958, adding Reuben, Catherine and Robert to the family. In 1968 they purchased farmland near Bapaume and built a home for better access to education. Later, Lee completed their family. They would continue to farm their land before retiring and moving to Spiritwood in 1997. Following George’s passing in 2007, Donna moved to her most recent location at Creekside Manor. Donna was a very warm and hospitable person. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking, painting, gardening, camping and music. Visiting with family and friends brought her much joy. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and sharing in their growing years. The family has been overwhelmed with how many people have reached out with stories and memories of Donna. Stories highlighting her warmth, generosity, grace and kindness. She will surely be remembered fondly in all of our hearts. Donna is survived by her children, Edward (Marlene) from Pierceland SK, Evelyn (Tony) Goetz from Creelman SK, Reuben (Linda) from Spiritwood SK, Catherine (Mervin) Volk from Belbutte SK, Robert (Connie) from Victoria BC, and Lee (Donna) from Edmonton AB; grandchildren Mark (Gabrielle) and Ryley Sarrazin, Carolyn (Jared) Baldwin, Jeremy and Scott (Kaitlyn) Goetz, Ryan (Mandy) and Michael (Heather) Sarrazin, Randy (April) Volk, Jody (Phil) Sack, Sarah (Blair) St Amant, Justin, Rachelle (Kelly), Mathais (Catherine) and Cole Sarrazin, Luc, James, Nanette and Simone Sarrazin; great-grandchildren Waylon and Waddie Sarrazin, Libby Baldwin, Kylie and Carter Sarrazin, Tanner and Tyler Volk, Macey and Madison Sack, Michael and Jordy St Amant; her sisters Gwen (Ian) Burgess and Gail (Robert) Anderson; sisters-in-law Paula Cure and Muriel Sweet and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband George, parents Frederick Sweet and Pearl Mackel, step-father Reuben Mackel, step-mother Leni Sweet, parents-in-law Mathais and Simone, brothers George and Jim, great-grandson Riley Sack, siblings-in-law Margaret (Robert) Bussiere and Leo Cure. Funeral service was celebrated on March 21, 2016 at Sacred Heart RC Church in Spiritwood SK with Reverend Peter Nnanga. Music director was Claire Schira. Readings by Veronica MacDonald, Joyce Willick and Suzanne Charbonneau. Eulogy by Dona Bedi. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were all relatives and friends who have shared in Donna’s life. Donna will be laid to rest at her husband’s side at the Spiritwood Cemetery on a later date.
