I know several years have passed, but I hope this message can be passed on to Eddie's family. I was not aware Eddie had died until I saw this obituary. I owned a Canada Bread franchise out of PA from 1999-2006 and knew Eddie previous to that for several years from working for a different distributor. When I went out on my own, Eddie helped me look after the International 4900 that was the heart and soul of my business. He was never too busy to offer me advice and knowledge and I quickly came to respect and trust him. I was very disappointed when he moved away.
Once, my truck broke down on the side of the road and although the repair was simple, I didn't have the knowledge or tools. I called Eddie and within the hour, he drove out and got it going again, despite being extremely busy at work. I never forgot that. Likewise, on another occasion I had left my personal vehicle at the International dealership when picking my truck up after service and came back to find it had a flat tire. I didn't have the proper tools but Eddie lent me his, and stayed past the end of the work day until I finished changing the tire.
I will also add I know Eddie loved his children. He may have been gruff, but I remember asking him one time about his kids and his eyes shone with pride.
I am truly sorry to hear he passed away. I often thought of the kindness Eddie showed me 20 years ago and hoped I would again run into him and be able to tell him thanks once more. You have my sincerest sympathies. I won't forget him.
