Obituary of Susan Lamothe

Susan Lamothe 1948-2016 Susan Elizabeth Marcella Lamothe passed away on September 1, 2016. She was born in Prince Albert on January 19, 1948 to Marcel and Betty (Pauline) Lamothe. Susan was the oldest of seven children and grew up in Bodmin on the family farm. The family also ran a store and post office during her childhood years. Susan spent lots of time with her Memere and Pepere who farmed nearby and Betty's sister Joan lived with them for several years of her childhood. Susan worked hard on the farm, enjoyed baking and berry picking, and helped take care of her younger siblings. She attended elementary school in Bodmin and graduated from high school in Big River. After graduation, Susan backpacked through Europe for 6 months before moving to Rosetown and completing a secretarial course. She then moved to Winnipeg and did accounting and office work for the Natch family at Winnipeg Construction Co. She made many friends, including her lifelong best friend Kathie Lobel, and even introduced her cousin Roger to his future wife - her friend Louise. She painted lovely ceramics, was active in Big Brothers, enjoyed travelling and exotic restaurants, football games and the horse races. Susan visited the farm every Christmas to sit under the tree and hand out presents as was her duty being the oldest. In 1982 Susan returned to Saskatchewan and settled in Saskatoon to be closer to family. She trained as a massage therapist and had that career in addition to still working as an accountant. She divided her time between Saskatoon and Big River for many years, living with Betty on the family farm until Betty's passing and then staying on there until her own health precluded it. Family meant everything to Susan and she babysat whenever possible. She used to go fill freezers full of ready made meals for expectant siblings and made up care packages of baking, pickles etc to give out at Christmas. She sewed clothes for sisters, nieces and barbie dolls before turning to crocheting and made afghans for the many nieces, nephews and their children. She made great friendships, could always be counted on, loved her brother's homemade wine, was an avid Riders fan, a voracious reader, loved Clint Eastwood and Neil Diamond, did the NY Times crossword in pen and enjoyed trying out delicious new recipes for the family. Susan was predeceased by her grandparents Herbert and Sarah Blyth and Alphonse and Philomene Laurin as well as parents Marcel and Betty Lamothe. She is survived by brothers Peter (Marilyn) Lamothe and Stephen (Lorna) Lamothe as well as sisters Joanna (Brian) Huffman, Pauline (Bob) Gerow, Janette Wilson and Barbara Cadrin. Susan was an honorary and beloved extra parent to all her nieces, nephews and their children - Charlene (Trevor) Lamothe-Wall and Madelaine and Chloe-Anne; Jerelyn (Rob) Davis and Reese and Sophie; Logan Lamothe; Nathan Lamothe; Darrell and Aza Huffman; Kimberley (Shaun) Templer and Peyton and Haley; Andrea Huffman and Nugget; Candace (Lee) Gerow and Cyarrah, Tayvah and Jaiss; Adam (Amanda) Gerow and Gracie, Mykenzie, and Justice; Ryan (Melissa) Wilson and Max; Kiel (Pam) Wilson and Ember, Taylor, and Jackson; Joseph (Danielle) Lamothe and Felicity and Lydia; Lance (Demi) Lamothe and Theodore; Stuart Lamothe; Matthew Cadrin; Rachel (Nolan) Cadrin and Austin, Chicken and Wally.
