Obituary of Rose Smith

Rose Smith 1918 - 2016 Rose was born March 26, 1918 to parents Joseph & Magdelina Leier at Allan, Saskatchewan. She was the eighth child in the family of ten children. At the age of 12 she lost her mother. At the age of 14 years she drove a team of horses & high wheeled wagon along with two other fellows with teams & wagons from Allan to south of Mildred where her father had bought land. She worked in the Mildred area for Walter Winningers, Emil Turgeon, Albert & Simone Willick and the Erlandson’s. On November 10th, 1938 Rose & Bob were married. In due time Armella, Roberta, & Armand were born to them. She is survived by her 3 children, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Anyone that knew Rose would agree that she was always ready to help neighbours and that she was a feisty lady; she would let you know in no uncertain terms how she felt. Something we remember of Rose was her wearing a dress and apron most of the time; her slip always a couple of inches below the bottom of her dress. During her years on the farm she was an ardent gardener. She was involved with the Spiritwood Horticulture Society and later named an Honorary Life Member. She loved to cook and entertain people. She loved company and there was always food put on the table. Playing bingo and playing a good game of cards was always welcome. Rose had a great memory for Birthdays & Anniversaries. Reading history books was a passion for her. Working with her hands took her through the years. She made countless quilts all with a treddle sewing machine. She lived on her own till she was 92years old. The last part of her life was spent at Evergreen Health Center in Leoville, Sask. She had the most excellent care from the staff . Rose had seen lots of happiness in her family. Grandchildren came followed by her great grandchildren and her 4 great great grandchildren. She gladly held and gave her oldest great great grandson a bottle. This has made 5 generations. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Bob, 9 brothers & sisters & their spouses, 2 son-in-laws Gordon McNeilly & Floyd Wasden & great great granddaughter in infancy. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Peter Nnanga on Monday, December 5th, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Spiritwood, Sask. Phil Marion was the music director.
