Obituary of Leon Ernest Willick

Leon Ernest Willick March 4, 1935 - December 15, 2016 With deep sadness the family of Leon Ernest Willick announce that he passed away at age the of 81 in Saskatoon early in the morning of December 15, 2016 with his family by his side. Leon was born March 4, 1935 at Marcelin, Sask. to Simone (nee: Desjardins) and Albert Willick. Leon is fondly remembered by: his wife of 61 years, Florida (nee: Desrosiers); his sons and daughters: Don(Lis) Willick and family; Val Willick and family; Faye(Heather) Willick; Brenda Willick and family; Allen(Michelle) Willick and family; Maureen(Scott) Hayter and family; and daughter-in-law, Denise Carr and family as well as his surviving siblings and numerous other relatives and friends. Leon is predeceased by: his parents, Albert and Simone Willick; his son, Terry; his sister, Anna(Leroy) Forshner; his brothers, George Willick and Louis Willick as well as numerous other relatives. Leon grew up on a farm near Mildred and attended school at Mirror Lake. He hated school but enjoyed all the sports - hockey, softball and curling. When he had enough of school, Leon worked for various farmers and in the winter at logging in the bush at Hudson Bay. This is where he met the love of his life, Florida Desrosiers who helped her mom cook for the logging crew. Together they started their farm and family on a farm near Mildred. Leon always milked cows and the dairy became a big part of family life. He did take a little time for golfing, camping and fishing and near retirement he took up cross country and down hill skiing. One thing on Leon's bucket list was to custom combine. In 1983 that wish came true when he combined with a crew out of Outlook. They started out in Texas and made their way back to Outlook. This was a summer that Leon and Florida would never forget. Leon and Florida retired from farming after 45 years and moved into Spiritwood. He was not really happy to move to town but Florida surprised him with a quad on his 65th birthday as a retirement hobby. That hobby became his passion as Leon spent many days touring the country with family and friends. He had more than 10,000 miles on his quad. He also enjoyed bowling, curling and fishing in his retirement years. Nothing meant more to Leon than the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, coffee and back road rides and talking over old times with his dear friends. Leon will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends. "When we hear the thunder, we will think that Dad and Terry are out for a quad ride! Love you!" The Celebration of Leon's life will be held at 10:00AM on April 28, 2017 at the Sacred Heart RC Church in Spiritwood, Sask. with Fr. Peter Nnagna officiating. A private family interment will follow at the Mildred South Cemetery. Following the interment, family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship and lunch at the Spiritwood Civic Centre Hall.
