Obituary of Katy Ripka

It is with deep sadness that the family of Katy Ripka announces her passing on November 5, 2007 at the age of 98 years. Katy was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1929. She met and married Harry Ripka in 1936. They farmed for one year on the present farm site in the Glaslyn area and then they packed up and went to Toronto in 1937. They moved back to Glaslyn in 1940 and have lived and farmed there since then. Katy will be lovingly remembered by her two sons Stephen Ripka of Regina, SK and his children Linnmarie (Darren) Latoski and their children Tidra and Quade of Regina, SK and Corrie (Brian) Gorrell and their children Karrisa, Ashton and Scheyanne of Bulyea, SK; and Bill Ripka of Glaslyn, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Harry Ripka, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Swistun and her brother Peter Swistun. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 9th, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Holy Cross R.C. Church in Glaslyn, SK with Rev. Fr. George Canto as the celebrant. The church choir was accompanied by organist Helen Pylypow. Rose Pilat read the eulogy. The honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Katy's life and the active pall bearers were Raymond Leger, Jim Wells, Dean Wells, Walter Pilat, Don Swistun and Robert Lins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spiritwood Health Complex Foundation. Katy was laid to rest in the Fairholme Cemetery.
