Obituary of John Szypula

John Szypula June 4, 1942- January 25, 2017 John Szypula, of Prince Albert, passed away peacefully after a brief stay in the Victoria Hospital with his family by his side, on January 25th, 2017. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gloria (of 53 years), his son Rick (Patty) Szypula, and his daughter Jean (Darrell) Oleksuik, and his grandchildren Arianna (Mark), Steven, Nathan, Larissa Oleksuik, and Madisyn Szypula. He was born in Prince Albert SK as the only child to Jan and Jean (nee: Zdrill) Szypula. He is predeceased by his parents and in laws Laura (nee: Pompu) and Wilfred Brad; and his friend Barry Vogelaar. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. John took a course in radio and TV repair in Moose Jaw when he graduated high school, but he never worked in that field. He worked at Revelstoke Lumber, Bradburys Hardware, Ashdown Hardware, Mill City Hardware, and the Co-op. Afterward he started working in property management for the Saskatchewan government until he lost most of his vision. He gradually became totally blind and depended a great deal on books for the blind and his internet radio which he listened day and night. The Prayer Service will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday February 1st, 2017 with Mr. Howard Weitzel officiating. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday February 2nd, 2017 with Father Roque Concepcion and Father Hervé Vallée concelebrating, both services will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 260- 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the CNIB 1705 McKercher Drive Saskatoon SK S7H 5N6.
