Obituary of Gladys Chyzowski
Gladys Chyzowski
1932-2017
Gladys was born on March 25th, 1932. She was raised on a farm near Sonningdale, Sk by Walter and Erika Ditmar. She was the eldest daughter of 5 siblings: Vic, Frank, Max, Benita and Esther. Gladys married Dmetro on September 23, 1954. They were married for 59 years before Dmetro's passing in 2014. Together they had 4 children who were their pride and joy, 11 grandchildren to keep them laughing and busy and 7 great grandchildren who continued to bring happiness into their lives. Daughter Shirley (Mervin) and two sons Channing (Isolde) and children (Parker, Ryder, Sawyer), Skyler; daughter Noreen (Brent) and two daughters Shanna (Jeff) and children (Ryden, Reese, Carys), Tracy (Brad) and children (Ali, Andi); son Ed (Cristina) and four children (Jordan, Taylor, Bella, Kane); daughter Olga (Wayne) and three children (Clay, Sidney, Braidyn). Gladys and Dmetro farmed in the Ranger community for many years. After their retirement, they moved to Spiritwood where they quickly planted new roots. Gladys soon became a huge part of the community. Gladys was a strong and a very talented woman. She planted a huge garden every year. She spent numerous hours harvesting this garden for the long winter ahead. She enjoyed picking wild berries and B.C. fruit making the most delicious jam and jellies for all family members. Gladys loved nothing more than family and friends gathering altogether. She was well known for her culinary abilities. She had a great love for cooking. She loved nothing more than preparing huge Christmas and Easter dinners for everyone. As the family grew so did her dining room table. Every child, grandchild and great grandchild loved her perogies, cabbage rolls, homemade soup, donuts and pails of cookies. She was an amazing seamstress. She made grad dresses, wedding and bridesmaid dresses and even jeans. She had a great talent for making beautiful quilts which every family member has been gifted with. She was also great knitter and made countless slippers, mittens, socks and afghans for all family members to enjoy. Gladys' faith grew stronger as the years went on. Her involvement in the church was nothing short of impressive. She sat on many committees, volunteered hours of her time, and created bonds that brought her comfort up until her final days. She will be greatly missed and cherished forever. May she rest in peace. A funeral service was held for Gladys on Monday, March 6th, 2017, from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Spiritwood, SK officiated by Rev. Nora Borgeson. Final resting place is in the Ranger Cemetery. Memorial donations in honor of Gladys Chyzowski may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
