Anna Margaret Garrison
February 16, 1921 - May 19, 2017
With sadness and fond memories the family of Anna Garrison announce that she passed away on May 19, 2017 at the age of 96. Anna was born on February 16, 1921 at Tyner, Saskatchewan to John "Jack" and Mabel (Nee: Mullis) Conn along with her older siter, Fern and younger sister, Eileen.
As her Dad was an elevator agent, Anna moved with her family from Tyner to Bethune, Anerly, Thrasher, Mildred and Wilkie eventually settling on the farm in the Witchekan Lake area when she was 13 as the prairies were too dry. . Anna grew up helping with chores, gardening, cooking and whatever else was needed. She also enjoyed playing ball, skating and dancing.
Anna met Doug Garrison in the fall of 1945 when he brought his custom combining outfit to the Spiritwood area to help with harvest. They were married on June 1, 1946 at the manse of the 3rd Avenue United Church in Saskatoon. Their honeymoon was a 2 month custom combining tour into the United States as far as Garden City, Kansas. Anna helped with cooking and other chores.
When Anna and Doug returned to the Spiritwood area, they bought a 1/2 section of land in the Twin Bay District. Here Doug and Anna welcomed their daughte, Gloria and later, Darryl. There was no shortage of work on the farm - milking, shipping cream, selling eggs, canning , cooking raising pigs and cattle and a few sheep for making blankets. Anna even helped operate farm machinery. But there was always time for fun such as berry picking, visiting, card parties and dancing. Doug and Anna eventually were also involved with Gloria and her husband Richard Teer running the Glaslyn Hotel.
After 47 years of farming and the hotel sold, Anna and Doug retired and moved into Spiritwood. They ccontinued to enjoy gardeing, and the grandkids as well as visiting and playing cards. They also enjoyed travelling down East, to Hawaii and other destinations. After Doug's health declined and move to the long term care, Anna stayed on in the new house but visited Doug almost every day. Doug passed away in 1998.
At the age of 82 Anna decided to move into a high rise in North Battleford and then eventually moved again to Lloydminster.
Over the years Anna was also a member of the Royal Purple and was the Queen of TOPS for a year. She belonged to the Idylwild Homemakers for most of her life and along with her sister Eileen would go to Idylwild Cemetery cleanup even after moving to Lloydminster.
Anna will be remembered for her love of life and people and most importantly family, her contagious laughter, visiting, having a good time and and her bit of a redhead temper as well as the good she always saw in people and her willingness to tackle any job.
Anna leaves to mourn: her daughter Gloria (Richard) Teer and their kids Roxy (Ron) Sawatsky and their kids, Serena and Seth; Kent (Donna) Teer and their kids, Cole and Cace; Chad Teer; her son, Darryl (Beverly) Garrison and their kids Natalie (Nathan) Mark; Sheldon (KIm) Garrison and their girls, Zoey and Quin; and daughter, Chantelle (Shawn) Villeneuve and their kids, Nixon and Estella as well as her sister, Eileen Major and other relatives and friends.
