Obituary of Luella Helen Parenteau
In loving memory of Luella Helen Parenteau.
Luella passed away on August 31, 2017, at Pineview Terrace in Prince Albert. Luella was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on January 6, 1924. Soon after her family moved to a farm south of Prince Albert. There she met Frank Parenteau who was hired by her father. They married in May, 1943. A few years later they built an Esso station and garage which they ran for many years, making friends throughout the community while raising their growing family. Luella later went to Osborne School to work as a teacher's aid helping in the classrooms and library. She retired in 1987 from this job that she truly loved. Luella loved to read, tend to her big garden, knit, and play kaiser. She also loved to dance, swim and spend time camping with Frank and her grandkids. She was an avid follower of the Royal Family and the Kennedys and always kept up on current events by faithfully watching CNN. She loved pets, especially dogs and had many canine companions over the years. She was actively involved with her church and the C.W.L. in her earlier years. Luella was known for her outspoken personality throughout her long life. Luella loved to laugh even if at her own expense. Family and grandchildren were very special to her. She had many adventures with them and was nicknamed "Groovy Grama". In later years as her health failed, she moved into the city until finally moving to Pineview Terrace until her passing.
Luella is survived by her children Elaine (Alan) McMillan, and Alvin (Brenda) Parenteau; grandchildren Jennifer Happ (Paul), Kelly Prins, Melanie Nash (Nathan), Jared McMillan (Jodi), Chelsea Mayes (Danny) and Landon Parenteau; her great-granchildren Kaitlyn, Sarah and Josée Happ, Lux McMillan, Ryder and Ava Mayes, and Arie Nash; her son-in-law John Prins; her sisters-in-law Margaret Samson and Doris Samson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her husband Frank Parenteau; parents Ulric and Madgalene Samson; daughter Francine Prins; brothers Ray, Chester and Clifford Samson.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Pineview Terrace who became her second family. We would also like to thank Dr. Banoub and his staff for their compassion and professionalism. Donations in Luella's honor can be made to your local SPCA or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
