Obituary of Mervin Duril Roode

Mervin Duril Roode 1945-2017 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Mervin Duril Roode, age 72 late of Holbein, SK. He passed away in the Prince Albert district on Aug 31th, 2017. Mervin was born May 15th, 1945 in Prince Albert to John and Gladys (Guthrie) Roode. He spent most of his life in the Holbein area. He attended the Wild Rose School and after school he was busy doing various jobs from being a mechanic, to driving a truck and being a heavy equipment operator. He later married the love of his life Margaret Stene on Feb 22, 1975 in Calgary, AB. He had three wonderful and loving children, Lyle Roode (Guylaine Duret) and his children Dylan and Danielle, Tanya Roode (Josh Jorgensen), and Angie (Derek) Bird and their son Owen, stepchild Laurie (Stene) Sigfuson. His children and grandchildren were always his pride and joy. His highlight was always spending time with his kids whether it was just a day at the farm, family BBQ or going to the bush for wood. He worked at various jobs through his life where he moved from the Holbein district to the southern part of Saskatchewan, then to Saskatoon and later back to the Holbein area. He was a man of many talents and trades always busy doing something. He had the love for horse racing, feeding the birds and attending many family functions. We spent many weekends in various towns horse racing and if not there, many weekends at the lakes. He is also survived by some of his special friends, Lorne Park, Ernie and Michelle Degenhardt, Charlie Brawn and Rene Chretien. He comes from a family of eight; his siblings are Albert (Ruth) Roode, Opal Harris, Ken (Lynn) Roode, Fay (Don) Philp, Alvin (Florence) Roode, Phyllis Soles, and Shirley Roode. He is also survived by brother-in-law Garnie (Ida) Stene. He was predeceased by his parents John and Gladys Roode, parents-in-law Victor and Agnes Stene, his brothers-in-law Warner Stene, Clarence Harris and Lawrence Soles, and sister-in-law Linda Stene. A Celebration of Mervin’s Life will held at Wild Rose School on Friday, September 8th, 2017 at 1:00pm with Celebrant Sherry Ouellette officiating. Interment will take place at Wild Rose Cemetery.
