Obituary of George Staus

It is with great sorrow that the family of George Staus announces his passing on January 20, 2008 in Spiritwood at the age of 82 years. He was born June 3, 1925 in Poland, and his parents immigrated to Canada when he was three years old. The family settled in the Meeting Lake district and George attended school there. He also schooled himself with his many books and ingenuity. George met Marie Gampe at a Rothermere school dance and they married in 1953 in the Silvergrove Church. They lived in Spiritwood for a year and George worked as a mechanic. Then they decided to move to the farm. In 1960, George and Marie were blessed with a daughter, Cheryl Ann. George enjoyed musical events, fishing, lathe work and being a mechanic. In 1999, they sold the farm and built a home in Spiritwood. He enjoyed his retirement, but still went to the farm on occasion. George appreciated the simple things in life. He was a gentle man and anyone who took the time to know him had a kind, loyal genuine friend even to his last days. George is lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 54 years, Marie Staus; his daughter Cheryl (Greg) Turgeon of Spiritwood, SK and their children Meagan and Michelle; his sisters Irene (Gene) McLroy of Coquitlam, BC, Margaret (Laurie) Cowan of Maple Ridge, BC, Marlene (Ivan) Lindgren of Kelvington, SK; his brother Norbert (Linda) Staus of Calgary, AB; his sister in-law Elsie (Dan) Wurst of Cudworth, SK; his brothers in-law Walter (Agnes) Gampe of Scott, SK, Arthur (Norma) Gampe of Leask, SK and Harry Gampe of Shellbrook, SK as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was predeceased by his infant brother Ernest, his father Frederick Staus on Sept. 13, 1973, his mother Alma Staus on Feb. 23, 1995, his brother Armin on June 16, 2004, his father in-law Ewald Gampe on Dec. 7, 1967, his mother in-law Anna Gampe on Nov. 26, 1997, a special uncle Leopold Gampe on May 23, 1980 as well as other aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart R. C. Church in Spiritwood with Rev. Leigh Sinclair as the officiant.
