Obituary of Beryl Doris McKnight

The family of Beryl McKnight are deeply saddened to announce Beryl's passing on January 21, 2008 at the age of 79 years. She was born in London, England on March 10, 1928 to George and Jessie Pinchin. Bill and Beryl met in London in January 1945 while Bill was on leave from training in the R.C. A. F. They were married on July 15, 1945. Bill came back to Canada in February 1946 and Beryl followed in May. They settled in Big River and raised two boys. Beryl looked after neighborhood kids and several boarders and worked part time with Bill at the Post Office as well as a few other part time jobs and was very active in the Legion Auxiliary. Stories about picnics, camping, fishing, swimming and golfing all showed the fun loving attitude that Beryl had and shared with her many friends. Beryl also took up photography and then moved on to a movie camera. She took that every where she went. Even as her illness progressed, Beryl was still on many occasions a young, vibrant and sharp woman. However, she began to slow down and had to retire from curling and golfing. Bill did a wonderful job of getting Beryl out and about until recently. Beryl is lovingly remembered by her loving husband of 62 years, Bill McKnight; her sons Clifford (Betty) McKnight of Saskatoon, SK and Denis McKnight of Leroy, SK; her grandchildren Terry (Julie) McKnight of Saskatoon, SK and their children Kristen, Andrew, Kayden and Summer; Kristy McKnight of Saskatoon, SK; Sean McKnight of Saskatoon, SK and Spencer McKnight of Leroy, SK; her brother Clive Pinchin in England, her sister in-law Janet Pinchin in England as well as numerous other relatives and countless friends. She was predeceased by her parents George and Jessie Pinchin and her brothers Godfrey and Eric Pinchin. The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 24th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Evangelical Free Church in Big River with Rev. Mary Anne Boote as the officiant. The eulogy was read by Rob Warriner. The Big River Community Choir, accompanied by organist Laura Wilson, sang the hymns Abide With Me, Rock of Ages and Church in the Wildwood. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion formed an honor guard at the end of the service. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Beryl's life and the active pall bearers were John Johnson, Ron Johnson, Ron Hodgson, Terry McKnight, Sean McKnight and Neil Yurach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Beryl was laid to rest in the Big River Cemetery.
