Obituary of Olaf Christian Olson
Olaf Christian Olson
January 16, 1925 - November 30, 2017
With sadness and fond memories the family of Olaf Christian Olson announce that he passed away peacefully on November 30, 2017 at age 92. Olaf was born on January 16, 1925 on the farm in Ordale, the oldest of three children born to Nick and Josie (nee: Brorby) Olson. He attended Bygland School and then went on to farm with his parents.
In 1950 Olaf purchased a half section of land adjacent to his parents' farm which he eventually also took over. Over the years it was a very mixed farming operation which involved the production and sale of turkeys, chickens, eggs, cream, hogs, grain and beef cattle.
In 1958 Olaf married Selma Tunem and they had four children. They were all active members of Concordia Lutheran Church. Olaf and Selma remained on the farm until they retired and moved to Shellbrook in 2000. Times were very busy on the farm but they always found the time to spend with family and friends. Olaf always enjoyed going for a drive to the farm, the last trip being this past September.
After Selma died in 2009, Olaf's health started to fail and he eventually made his new home at the Parkland Integrated Health Centre. This became his second home and family because of the loving care and kindness he received. He would often comment, "How good I have it here." Olaf's family want to thank the staff for the wonderful care and to express their appreciation for the many people who came to visit their Dad while he was living there.
Olaf is survived by: his children, Orin, Sidney (Diane), Norman and Sharon; his sister, Edna Tunem; his brother-in-law, Orville Agrey as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is predeceased by: his wife, Selma Olson (nee: Tunem); his parents, Nick and Josie Olson; his sister, Norma Agrey; his parents-in-law, Jonas and Sofia Tunem; his sisters-in-law, Anna (Knute) Swanson, Lily Tunem, Hilda Tunem and Gladys (Ivan) Dalseide; his brothers-in-law, John Tunem, Benny (Clara) Tunem and Harold Tunem; his nephew, Allan Swanson and his great nephews, Chris Dalseide and Jeffrey Kacher.
The funeral service for Olaf began at 2:00PM on Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Shellbrook, Sask. with Pastor Emmanuel Aristide officiating. Lunch followed the service in the church hall. Interment followed at the North Concordia Cemetery. Music was provided by Nicole Philp and special music by the Ordale Singers. Honorary Pallbearers were his caregivers from Parkland Integrated Health Centre. Pallbearers were Orin Olson, Sidney Olson, Norman Olson, Rick Agrey, Raymond Agrey and Darryl Gray.
