She was at peace following an 18-month battle with cancer. Irene was born on July 7, 1946 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to Adrian and Mary Heyden. She was the youngest of eight children, and attended Belbutte and Medstead schools. She participated in many school activities but most of all enjoyed curling, following in her father’s footsteps. Irene had a good heart and volunteered countless hours to the Belbutte Ladies Club, Bapaume 4-H, Chitek Lake Recreation Club, Bingo calling in both Chitek and Spiritwood, as well as being a Chitek Lake First Responder. She worked in the postal service for many years, Sears, Pineview Service, Surprenant’s General Store and Super A. She enjoyed dancing, bingo, embroidery, yard work and could get the most challenging fire started in the fire pit. Irene met the love of her life, Albert, at a dance some 54 years ago. Albert and Irene married in 1965 and had two daughters, Shelley and Sheryl. They were blessed with son-in-laws, Brent Buchan and Reed Ludwig, and grandchildren, Carrington, Jamie and Lanny Buchan, and Brett and Larissa Ludwig whom she loved dearly. In the early years of their marriage Irene and Albert travelled many places throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan eventually moving to the Bapaume area where they resided for many years.
