Obituary of Winnifred "Winnie" Garner

Winnifred "Winnie" Garner February 8, 1924 - February 18, 2018 Winnifred Garner was born February 8, 1924 in Hodgeville, SK and passed away in Spiritwood, SK on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the age of 94 years. A graveside service was held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm from the Medstead Lutheran Cemetery, Medstead, SK with Delores Beaulac officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are considered “All those who have shared in Winnie’s life”. Winnie grew up in the Balcarres district and at the age of 17, she joined the Canadian Armed Forces and did various duties to help with the war effort. Winnie married Fred Garner in 1943. They made their home in the Cater district for over 50 years while raising their 2 children, Beverly and Joe. She worked as a Nurse’s Aid for many years in Spiritwood, SK. In 1997, Fred passed away and Winnie stayed in Spiritwood until 2006 when she moved back to the farm with her daughter, Beverly. Winnie always had a great love for horses and her flowers which she attended to well into her retirement. Winnie is survived by her daughter, Beverly Garner of Spiritwood, SK; her son, Joe (Linda) Garner of Kelowna, BC as well as her 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Margaret (Ken) Lowe of Balcarres, SK; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 1997. Memorial Donations may be made to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, 345 3 Ave S #1, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1M6 in memory of Winnie Garner as tokens of remembrance.
