Obituary of Arlo Myles Stene
Stene, Arlo Myles
Arlo was born on July 7, 1950 and passed away on March 1, 2018, in the Shellbrook Hospital at the age of 67. He was the son of Oscar and Beulah (Aug) Stene. He grew up on the farm in the Yankee Valley area and attended school in Yankee Valley, Parkside and Shellbrook. Arlo married Helen Danger on June 24, 1969 in Thompson Manitoba where they lived for six years. All their children were born there.
Arlo had a love of farming all of his life. He even did a little bit of swathing this past fall. He loved being on a machine and especially liked doing loader work. His job in Thompson was scooptram operator underground at the nickel mine. He loved this job, but he still came back to Shellbrook to farm on long weekends in the spring and fall. In 1975, he returned to Shellbrook to take over the family farm and to raise his family. He continued to have off-farm income by sandblasting and painting in the summers until 1993 and snipper operator for a logging company in the winters until 1990.
He then followed all Kevin’s AA hockey games. He was interested in all of his grandkids activities hockey, figure skating, dance, wakeboarding and ball. He loved hunting and fishing and had lots of stories about hunting with his cousins and uncle. He has followed the Blue Jays though the good years and the bad, he always had something to say about the pitchers!
Arlo had a strong faith which helped him through the difficult times and his 25 years of health issues. He recently often said the only reason he had lived this long was because so many were praying for him. Some days he did not know if this was good or not so good. He ushered at the church for many years and loved helping with coats and generally welcoming people as they came in. In the old church just helping you to find a seat was what many were thankful for. He also taught Sunday school for a short time.
Arlo is lovingly remembered by, his wife of 48 years Helen (Danger), his children, Duane (Carrie) of Sherwood Park, AB their children Kohl, Layne, Rhys, Morghan; Lori-Anne (Dwayne) of Saskatoon, SK their children Kristina (Matt), Ryan, Riley; Kevin (Amber) of Shellbrook, SK their children Kaitlan, Erika, Brett. His brothers, Trende (Jocelyn), Bernie (Joanne), Myron (Charlene), Kerry (Karen), Darcy (Debbie), his sister Shari(Boyd),numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and his mother-in-law Jeanne Danger.
Arlo was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Beulah (Aug) Stene and his father-in-law Glenn Danger.
