Obituary of Joseph Kerekes
The family of Joe Kerekes are deeply saddened to announce Joe's passing on February 23, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Joe came to Canada in approximately 1930 from Hungary with his parents, brother and sister to settle in the Spiritwood area. Farming was his life goal which he did succeed at. Joe and Mary raised three loving children, Linda, Margaret and Les. Joe loved fishing with all his friends, and was known as "Joe Perch". Fishing was a competition with his friends to see who could catch the biggest. His pride was his garden where he grew many vegetables that he shared with his loving family and friends. Joe loved to go pick berries and tried to find the biggest berries so he could brag to his friends and family. His basement was a home of treasures where he spent many hours building things and repair all sorts of things for family and friends. The funeral service was held on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Christ Church Anglican Church. The officiant was Rev. Peter Boote and the eulogy was read by Cory Kerekes. Solos were sung by Bill Martodam. Honorary pall bearers were all relatives and friends who shared in Joe's life. Active pall bearers were Powell Kerekes, Simon Kerekes, Rob Lotz, Dean Olson, Sheldon Goller and Ted Schmaltz. Left to treasure Joe's memory are his loving children and grandchildren Linda and Larry Vinish of Surrey, BC and their children Shelly and Rob and Brooke and Jesse and their son Brenden; Margaret and James "Jim" Wood of Saskatoon, SK and their son Tracy; Les Kerekes of Martensville, SK and his children Powell, Simon and Adella; his sisters Annie (Joe) Toth and family of Lethbridge, AB and Barbara (Joe) Knutson and family of Spiritwood, SK as well as numerous sisters in-law, brothers in-law, relatives in Hungary, many nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents Frank and Annie, his brother Andy, His father and mother in-law John and Julia Eros, his brothers in-law Louis Eros and John Takacs, his nieces Sandra and Christine Kohut and family in Hungary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan. Joe was laid to rest in the Spiritwood Cemetery.
